Ban Models

We cannot ban models who are below a healthy weight when we do not hold other role models accountable. Many rock stars take drugs and we do not stop them from performing and producing records. Footballers get drunk, beat people up and sleep around, yet they are not banned from playing. Even with thin celebrities, fashion models are far from the only examples to be found. Many actresses and pop stars are also very slim, as are many female athletes. Should they also be banned? And what about other kinds of female role models? Should we ban skinny teachers, doctors or businesswomen?
The type of models that we should really direct our attention to are those with eating disorders such as Bulimia and Anorexia. Models with Bulimia eating disorder often consume a large amount of food in a short amount of time, followed by an attempt to rid oneself of the calories consumed, usually by vomiting or by laxatives. Models with Anorexia have an obsessive fear of gaining weight and affecting their self image. They continue to feel hunger but deny themselves all but very small quantities of food. In the year 2009, a Uruguayan model died of heart failure after not eating for several days and a Brazilian model died after living on just tomatoes and apples. These examples highlight the seriousness of the situation of eating disorders. AND it is these models with eating disorders that we should really ban and certainly not models who are healthy but fall below a healthy weight. [continues]
