THE CASE AGAINST SMOKING
It is very well said that if a person is not persuaded to quit smoking due to its healthy hazards, then the cost of getting oneself medicated may induce a person to quit smoking. Often times, most people start smoking when they are in their teens and are addicted by the time they reach adulthood. Some have tried to quit but have returned to cigarettes because smoking is such a strong addiction. It is a habit that should be stopped because when you run, you get tired and dizzy, especially if you have been smoking for years and years, It can make your nails brittle and your fingers turn yellow, It makes your house smoky and smell like a cigarette ash- tray and it can make one susceptible to many diseases. When our parents were young, people could buy cigarettes and smoke pretty much anywhere, even in hospitals. My middle-aged friend at the hospital told me that she used to shoot x-ray with one hand and a cigarette in the other about twenty years ago, shocking isn’t it? Advertisements for cigarettes were all over the place. Today, we're more aware about how bad smoking is for our health. Smoking is restricted or banned in almost all public places and cigarette companies are no longer allowed to advertise on TV and/ radio.
Of all the habits humans indulge in, Smoking is the most baffling. Yet many people, once they start to smoke, continue to do so throughout their lifetime. It is almost universally accepted that that lifetime will be foreshortened and that the smokers general well being will deteriorate at a greater rate than the non-smoker. Looked at objectively, the habit is addictive. Cigarette manufactures have been required to put warnings on all their packages of cigarettes to tell smokers that cigarette smoking is dangerous to health. But still people smoke. Smoking is the cause of many diseases, some fatal and others somewhat debilitating, yet all seriously affect your health and therefore affect your quality of life as well...
