Babies having Babies
Babies are having babies; this is nothing new in American culture and will not change anytime in the near future. However, decisions dictate what happens in life, and the potential for change is endless.   Bringing a child into this world at a young age is careless, unwise, and a drain on everyone involved.   With age comes knowledge, and real-world experience, both extremely valuable traits to successful parenting. Waiting to have a child at an older advanced age ultimately will make things easier on the child, parent, and the society we live in today.  
It is obvious that not having a high school diploma can seriously put a damper on trying to raise a child. The stability a young child needs can rarely be found in the type of income a high school dropout receives.   Pregnancy and birth are significant contributors to high school dropout rates among girls. Only 50 % of teen mothers receive a high school diploma by 22 years of age, versus approximately 90 % of women who had not given birth during adolescence (National Center for Educational Statistics 2001). Furthermore, the children of these dropout mothers are more likely to have lower school achievement themselves.   According to the Center for Disease Control, children born to teenage mothers are more likely to drop out of high school, have heightened health problems, become incarcerated during adolescence, face unemployment, and give birth themselves as teenagers (Center for disease control and prevention [CDC], 2010). These issues can be avoided through education; not just high school education, but the furthering of education through college. Becoming a college graduate will propel an individual to a path of successful parenting.   The goal of any parent should be to raise a child who can function and contribute to the society in which it lives.
