Babe Ruth
“I won't be happy until we have every boy in America between the ages of six and sixteen wearing a glove and swinging a bat.” - Babe Ruth. George Herman Ruth Jr. this man was born onto this earth on February 6, 1895, and Passed away on August 16, 1948(Schumach). This man is an American icon first, and a baseball legend last. Babe single handedly changed the way of Baseball and how It was played. He rescued the game from the dark days of the dead ball era. Babe’s great deeds on the field weren’t recognized that easily. He needed the help of sportswriters and advertisers to spread his legend across America. Ruth was a hero in the eyes of the America. Ruth was the perfect reflection of the affluence and over consumption of the decade. He was a legend because he did the right things at the right time (Schumach).

Babe has the heart of an American Spirit icon in everything he does, even from when he was a little boy. He grew up in a charitable institution in Baltimore. He went from a low to the leading figure in professional baseball. When Babe was in baseball he was idolized by so many around the world. He inspired millions of young Americans to strive for great. He influenced so many to have passion for the game of baseball to love it, and play it for what it is, Americas Pastime. It was believed that by watching baseball, youngsters would learn to be better people because they would begin to imitate the professionals who became their heroes. Baseball taught quick decision making skills, competitiveness, how to sacrifice for the team, as well as how to accept authority. Babe Ruth was the perfect image for a country that loved sports. He had the qualities that demanded an amazing hero. Babe could scarcely recall a name from the thousands of friends he mad, but rarely , if ever lost any of them (Schumach).
