Herpes Simplex Virus 2
In the world, there are many diseases that are contagious, such as HIV, syphilis and others; but not as easily contagious like herpes. Herpes viruses are a leading cause of human viral disease, besides the influenza and other cold viruses. Herpes can be in a person's body for a period of time without showing any signs or symptoms, but later they can be activated and look as shingles. This virus comes from a family called Herpesviridae, but it branches out to other different virus such as HSV-1 and HSV-2. HSV-1 normally appears on the mouth and face; HSV-2 appears on the genital areas or perianal regions. Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-2) has three structures, an envelope, a tegument, a nucleocapsid and a genome. The envelope is the outer part of the virus, is normally fragile, it is made out of lipids, which it makes it sensitive to acids, detergents, and organic solvents. Since the outer membrane is so fragile, the virus can only be passed by direct contact with mucosal surfaces or secretions from the person who is infected. The envelope of the cell contains proteins called Glycoprotein that determines what cell to infect, because it has the appropriate receptors to pass to the cell that is infecting. The tegument is another structure of the virus. This structure contains clusters of proteins that are located between the envelope and the nucleocapsid. These proteins help with the viral replication of DNA, and evasion of the immune response by inhibiting the signaling in the immune system, and activating interferons. The DNA of the virus is located in the Capsid; Is a donut shaped capsomere with about 100-200 nanometers of diameter; and it contains 162 capsomeres. And last the Genome is the DNA itself; and is double stranded. The replication of HSV-2 starts by having direct contact with another person, most of the times is by sexual intercourse, but by having contact with any area that is infected with...
