1) What type of vehicle did you build? What options did you add and what was the difference in Base Model price and the new total with added options? 2) How many different vehicle configurations do you think there are possible? Could every customer have a different vehicle? To make it simpler, what if MB only two types of vehicles, three color schemes, four packages and two option choices? How many combinations are possible? 3) How important is customization to MB’S strategy? What are MB’s order winner and qualifier? Concisely describe MB’s operations and supply strategy.
My type of vehicle was the SL550 Roadster and I picked mars red for exterior and Red and Black premium leather for the interior. Base Price is $103,650 and additions were a total of $15,352 besides a gas guzzler tax of $1,300 plus $875.00 for transportation charge which brings the total to 121,177 for the price of the SL500 Roadster which only seats 2 people. I added trim package, illuminated door sills, Distronic, Parktronic, panorama roof, Matte-chrome door handle inserts, and wheel locks, star service prepaid maintenance. Then the accessories: media face, iPod cable,SD memory card, Media Interface Plus, License plate frame, all-season mats, 18-inch twin 5-spoke wheels, Battery tickle charger, Interior care kit, exterior car care kit, car cover, anti-slip mat, collapsible shopping crate. I believe that everyone could have a different car, but they could have the same color or model but each person would pick different accessories which make the car unique for them. I see that there are so many options and accessories for the customers to get for their cars that many things would be different in each car.
