Audi Car Manufacturing Complex
INTRODUCTION

Audi AG is a car manufacturing company founded in the year 1910 at Zwickau, Germany by a German engineer and an automobile pioneer named August Horch. In September 1921, Audi became the first German car manufacturer to present a production car, the Audi Type K, with left-handed drive. The left-handed drive then became popular because it gives better view of the incoming traffic. The company had been one of the leading brands in the car industry in the world for over a century and -still counting. Volkswagen AG is the largest share holder in the Audi AG Company and it introduced the Audi brand to the United States for the 1970 model year. The proposed car manufacturing company will be the first German car brand to have its production in the Philippines. It will boost the nation’s economy, giving jobs to many Filipinos. Another advantage is that it will make the Audi car brand more available and less expensive compared that when it is being imported from other parts of the world. Today Audi cars are being imported under the initiative of Robert Coyiuto Jr, Chairman and CEO of the Coyiuto Group of Companies & PGA Cars Inc. The company is the sole importer and distributor of Porsche and Audi automobiles in the Philippines.

The company’s integrity and trademark for quality and superior engineering should not be sacrificed. The cars that will be produced would still be engineered by the German pioneers. A residential area will be allotted for them in the complex that will make it accessible for them to go to work.

The complex will also boast new sustainable technologies that will open the nation’s eyes for global awareness. And it will showcase the Audi Company’s commitment, innovation through technology.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The German automotive industry with about 720,000 jobs is one of the biggest industries and dominant employers in Germany and one of the biggest automotive industries in the world (Herbst, 2009). With brands like Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, Opel, BMW, Audi and Porsche this industry is major in car manufacturing and technology. According to Taylor (2010) Volkswagen “is the No. 1 automaker in Europe, the No. 1 foreign automaker in China, and currently ranks second in Brazil”. In most cases German cars are more expensive than foreign, especially Asian, imports. Therefore the client base in that industry has an attractive, above average income. With the price advantage the Asian car industry is also a big competitor. Growth rates are continuing to rise after a massive decline during the worldwide financial crisis. Future development potentialities are renewable energies, electronic cars, and hybrid or hydrogen powered engines. Potential threats are government regulations on CO2 emissions and a possible general speed limit on the “Autobahn”, the German highway system which would decrease sales for the big German manufacturers and increase sales for cheaper imports. This industry has a lot of growth potential and a lot of development possibilities. Based on the facts the best decision would be to take a client from the German automotive industry.…
