What is attitude? You can choose your attitude, change your attitude, or ignore your attitude, but first let's talk about what defines one...

Attitudes are the views of a person whether positive or negative. Your attitude colors every aspect of your life. It is like themind’s paintbrush. It can paint everything in bright, vibrant colors –creating a masterpiece. Or it can make everything dark and dreary
An attitude is made up of: * What you think. * What you do. * What you feel. * For example, if a girls says, "I like dancing", it represents positive thinking towards dancing. This attitude is formed because she believes that she likes dancing, or feels happy while dancing. Consider another example, when someone says, "I hate working on this project" represents a negative attitude of that person towards the project. He either thinks so, or he believes that this work is boring. In both the cases there could be numerous reasons for developing those atti tudes.

It's believed that there are three categories of human attitude/nature. The first category comprises those who have ''You're right, I'm wrong'' attitude, the second category has this ''I'm right, you're wrong'' attitude, and the third sect believes in ''You're right, so am I'' attitude.

An attitude can be defined as a “predisposition to act in a certain way towards some aspect of one’s environment, including other people” Mednick et al, (1975). Many theories have been put forward to predict attitude change, Argyle (1994). However, attitudes are extremely difficult to define and can’t be directly seen or measured, so behaviour is inferred from what people say or do. An attitude is the subjective evaluation of objects, people, events, ideas, activities and feelings. This evaluation is normally of a positive or negative nature and is based normally on experiences which you have conflicting feelings towards. Attitudes have a past, present and future, to which behaviour develops in a sequence. Many believe there are three components…

People’s health can be affected by a positive attitude because if they are sad all the time they have little to look forward to in the future. Even doctors agree that people who look at the bright side of things could potentially survive longer. In fact, “Research has found a link between an upbeat mental state and improved health, including lower blood pressure, reduced risk for heart disease, healthier weight, better blood sugar levels, and longer life” (US Department of Health and Human Services). Having a positive attitude is good for people dealing with everyday life stressors. For people in more difficult situations, remaining optimistic can be even more beneficial. Other Experts disagree with the importance of positive thinking. For example, in “The Positive Power of Negative Thinking”, the author states, “Defensive Pessimism involves learning to tolerate negative emotions in order to get things done” (Norem). She says that positive thinking is actually a hinderance to actually dealing with problems. The concern being that action not thoughts change situations. Dr. Norem states that “Defensive pessimism involves learning to tolerate negative emotions in order to get things…

Positive Attitude People can best respond to conflict by having a positive attitude. When people have a positive attitude, it makes things brighter. When things become less dull and more brighter, everyone should feel better about themselves and the current situation. Churchill affirms with a positive attitude, “Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival.” This is one example of how having a positive attitude can make you feel more optimistic throughout the current situation.…

Our attitude can align with our behaviors, however many times our attitude may be one thing and our behavior another. A person may say that they believe one thing, yet when it comes down to it their behavior may reflect that they either have a different belief or that acting out their attitude is merely not acceptable behavior (Gilovich et al., 2013). Attitudes can be a successful predictor of behavior (Gilovich et al., 2013). For example I have a good attitude about exercise, therefore it is something I incorporate into my life and make a priority. So my attitude does influence my behavior in a positive way. However I also have good attitudes about volunteering more, spending more time reading my bible and reaching out to people. More times than not my behavior falls short of my attitude. That being said, it appears that attitudes more often than not represent good intentions. Often times a person believes something and furthermore, they believe that they will follow through. Due to either time restrictions or just a lack of ability to follow through, many attitudes do not actually come to fruition through behavior. Perhaps thinking about an attitude can change it because you put forth some effort to analyze and understand why you may have that attitude. Awareness can be the catalyst for…

Have you ever had a conflict to deal with and were unsure how to handle it correctly? Having a positive attitude is the best response you can have when you are dealing with a conflict. There are many examples in the world of why this is true. For example, the stories Dear Miss Breed, The Diary of Anne Frank, and Prisoner B-3087 all provide great examples of why having a positive attitude is the best response to conflict. In these stories, there are characters who, in the face of very severe conflicts, found ways to overcome these struggles by maintaining a positive viewpoint.…

To find one word to describe a person's attitude isn't easy, but if I had to decide I would say I have a positive attitude. When I run cross country I try to be as positive as possible so I can push myself and my team. During races when I start to feel tired I tell myself "You're almost done, keep going" and "There's only a mile left don't give up now". There are also times in practice when I want to slow down or take it easy, but then I think "If I work hard now I'll do even better during the race". Before races I try to encourage my teammates by telling them "I believe in you!" and "You'll do great!". There are also times in school where I try to be positive. In the course of a school day I face a lot of challenges such as hard tests, large sums of homework, or just exhaustion. When school gets hard I remember that I can do it. The reason I try to have such a good attitude is because I know that I can do anything if I put my mind to it.…

In my opinion, attitude is very important in a workplace. If you work with the public, you always have to have a positive attitude. Poor attitude towards customers, coworkers can easily get you fired or sent home early. I am a bagger at Ingles Market, and I deal with the public everyday. I never let my outside problems interfere with my job. My attitude towards coworkers and customers are always caring, friendly, and nice. Before I was hired at Ingles Market, my attitude was terrible, and I had a bad temper. Adults always show proper attitude towards me by saying “mam, please, and thank you”. I am very good at controlling my attitude at work. Biting my lip helps me control myself when I want to say something mean to someone. There is always that customer who comes in and complains about everything and it is all I can do to not say anything to them. A girl came through my line and complained about the lottery machine we got a month ago, and she said “I thought Ingles was a family oriented grocery store; that is very sad they did that” I just smiled at her. I always smile at the customers, and that shows them that you care, and you are happy to be there. You can’t show your emotions at your workplace. Most of the customers who come through my line are regulars and always have a positive attitude towards me and commenting on how fast I am. That always puts me in an excellent mood! Since I have been at Ingles, I have grown a lot. I am more familiar with everything and how the people there act. My attitude is always positive, and I never say negative things. Good attitude leads to making customers happy about your store; they will tell others about their experience at your store and bring you more business. If you have a poor attitude, it makes customers angry and they will tell others negative things about the store, and you will loose business and most likely loose your job. Having a positive attitude is always the way to…

My own take on this is that, by being positive we are enjoying the present. We neither lament on the failures of the past nor do we get overwhelmed about the possible disasters of the future. We are not reckless but take due precautions where necessary. We charge the environment around us with positive energy. We end up attracting others towards us as well as becoming attractive in the eyes of the others. We attract and gain success by our positive attitude.…
