Software Requirements Specification for CBA Attendance Monitoring Mobile Application

1. Introduction
1.1. Purpose

We have seen over the years that the process of manual attendance has been carried out across almost all educational institutions. The process is not only time consuming but also sometimes inefficient resulting in the false marking of attendance. Today, we need not maintain pen and paper based attendance registers. Following this thought, we have proposed an attendance monitoring system based on the concept of web services which is implemented as an Android mobile application that communicates with the database residing on a remote server. The mobile application would require connecting to the database using Wi-Fi technology. The purpose of this SRS document is to provide a detailed specification and system features of the (CBA Attendance Monitoring Mobile Application), its parameters and goals, functional and nonfunctional requirements, overview of the design, and the various modules of the system.

The paper presents a software design and requirements specification for taking student attendance in classrooms, or any school activity/event. The mobile app is based on inserting, deleting, updating and querying of a database management system. Emphasis is mainly on a real time application, namely tracking and counting of students in crowded rooms within a short time.

In addition to Internet and email monitoring, there are numerous other ways employers can observe the daily activities of their employees. Many employers are resorting to methods of supervision that enable them to monitor not only the quality of work by the employees, but also the quantity of work. Technological surveillance has become commonplace among today's workforce, regardless of whether employees are even aware of the surveillance. Types of employee monitoring that are progressively on the rise include: auditory surveillance such as recording and reviewing telephone conversations and voice mail, and oral exchanges that are transmitted by means other than telephonic. Video and digital cameras, and global positioning satellites monitor visual and physical activities. With a remarkable decrease in cost and increase of accessibility, employers are finding it easier than even to keep a watchful eye on their employees. And as long as said activities are monitored in accordance to law, these types of observations are legal. The technology can however, make it very easy for those doing the monitoring to…

Employee privacy has been a controversial topic especially with the rise in internet usage, the popularity of social media increasing, and the addition of GPS to mobile devices. With these advances in technology there are numerous ways for employers to monitor their employees’ time at work. According to Evans (2007) as many as eighty percent of the employers, who employ twenty percent of the American population, monitor employees’ telephone conversations, e-mails, and voicemails. Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology has made tracking the whereabouts of employees easier rather than tracking only information passed between employees and other individuals. The United States does offer privacy laws to help safeguard employees’ expectations of privacy; however, the laws are formatted around the physical realm such as desk drawers or an employee’s home, not an employee’s computer files or even social networking site (Riego, Abril, & Levin, 2012).…

A.R.A (Attendance and Room Automation), as the title suggest, this project is about automation. In applying creating this project we, the proponents, aim to integrate multiple devices to produce a system that would automate a room as well as attendance checking. But what is automation? According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, automation is “the technique of making an apparatus, a process, or a system operates automatically. The theory of automation states that “there are three building blocks of automation (1) a source of power to perform action, (2) feedback controls, and (3) machine programming.” (http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/44912/automation/24840/Modern-developments#toc24841) Power source, being a self-running device, it is necessary for it to have its own power source. The feedback control is the sensing part of the system; this will be the one that gathers the input to be processed delivers the output and will run the actuating device. Last would be the machine programming, provided by the proponents for the whole system to run.…
