Chapter one
1 Introduction
1.1 Over the past decade there has been an effort to improve on the quality of Life of people living in prison. Quiet reasonable amount of resources has been committed by government to the Uganda prison service to carter for the good welfare of prisoners. However the traditional diet for prisoners has continued to be that of beans and posho due to budgetary constraints.

But increased incidences of HIV/AIDS amongst prisoners have led to over helming numbers of prisoners in sickbays due to AIDS and related diseases. There has also been a remarkable increase in the number of expectant mothers, children of prisoned mothers and the elderly prisoners.

EGG OF HOPE Initiative is therefore in need for expansion so as to address the supply gaps to have the entire country covered and therefore lower death rate of prisoners. LOCATION

Luzira prison farm is located at the main Uganda prisons luzira, Nakawa division at the out skirts of kampala district, just near luzira portbell on lake Victoria.
