In both ‘The kite runner’ and ‘Atonement’ the case of atone is brought up since these two touching novels carry on the same theme and resemble in an intriguing way. In the two novels, both characters make choices they end up regretting for the rest of their lives. They end up dragging other innocents into their confusion and creating even more victims. Committing a great sin and then having to live with a feeling of regret and blame for the rest of your life is atrocious, nothing else can be done in order to give back what has been lost but repent.
In The Kite Runner, Amir is a well rounded child who is very good friends with the servant’s son, Hassan. A series of incidents test the true nature of their friendship Amir ends up betraying Hassan by watching him get rapped by the neighborhood bully and not try to stop the actions caused by *** and Amir accuses him in a crime he did not commit. In Atonement, Briony Tallis, the protagonist whose actions at age 13 sabotages the relationship between her older sister Cecilia and the man she loves, Robbie. Brionny bears false withess in order to incriminate Robbie.
While Amir and his father escape to the United States when the Soviets overrun the nation, he tries to put his past behind him as he grows up. He is suddenly brought back to his country where he finds out that Hassan was actually his half-brother and that his loyalty to the family had cost him his life. Amir, in desperation, feels the need to repay Hassan in some way possible, possibly through the one son that Hassan left behind. Amir takes this as an opportunity to try and repent by adopting Sohrab to make up for his sins.
As the war goes on Brionny is compelled to act in some way to atone her sins. After both Celicia and Robbie die, Briony’s only way to show
