Introduction:
Astronomy is the science of celestial objects and phenomena that originate outside the Earth's atmosphere, such as stars, planets, comets, aurora, galaxies, and the cosmic background radiation. It is concerned with the formation and development of the universe, the evolution and physical and chemical properties of celestial objects and the calculation of their motions. Astronomical observations are not only relevant for astronomy as such, but provide essential information for the verification of fundamental theories in physics, such as general relativity theory. In Babylon, and ancient Greece, astronomy consisted largely of astrometry, measuring positions of stars and planets in the sky. Later, with the work of astronomers Kepler and Newton, whose work led to the development of celestial mechanics, the mathematical prediction of the motions of celestial bodies interacting gravitationally became the focus of astronomy. This was applied to solar system objects in particular. Motions and positions of objects are now more easily determined, and modern astronomy is more concerned with observing and understanding the actual physical nature of celestial objects. Astronomy is the oldest and most fascinating science. It means the history of space study. It is about the astronomers of the past and the present and what they have discovered or invented any machines like telescope etc which are useful for the study of space. About 4000B.C, the Egyptians developed a calendar based on the movements of the stars in the sky. Around the same time, the Chinese have recorded the eclipses of the Sun and the Moon. Research in astronomy is of two types- 1. The Oretical and 2. Observational. Theoretical studies predict and interpret the behavior of astronomical bodies while the observational work produces the facts on which theories must be based. Astronomy completely deals with our universe.
