Did you know that there are 988,376 cumulative AIDS cases with 761,723 being male and 181,802 being female? There are 385,537 cases of AIDS that are White, 397,548 that are Black, and 155,179 that are Hispanic. These are startling numbers. Here are some more startling facts. The top ten (10) states with reported cases of AIDS. New York has 190,363, California has 159,606, Florida has 116,041, Texas is next with 76,674, New Jersey is number five (5) with 53,756, Georgia has 38,084, Pennsylvania has 37,842, Illinois has 37,592, Maryland is number nine (9) with 35,395, and Puerto Rico has 32,057 cases of AIDS.   There have been 525,442 deaths among adults and adolescents and 4,865 deaths among children under the age of 13. This is due to people not being educated on HIV and AIDS as they should be. There is plenty of information out there regarding this disease. This is just a bit of information that is out there to educate someone on HIV and AIDS. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. A person can have the HIV virus for many years before they develop AIDS. HIV infects specific cells in your body or immune system. These are your CD4 cells or helper T-cells. These cells help your body fight infections and diseases. When CD4 cells are not working properly, you are more likely to get sick. Healthy bodies or immune systems have a CD4 cell count of 500-1800 per cubic millimeter of blood. When your CD4 count is below 200, you are then diagnosed with AIDS. HIV has about four (4) stages and AIDS is considered the last stage of HIV.   Being that HIV is a virus, one of its characteristics is that it is incapable of reproducing by itself.
