There is also differences in male and females for which meiosis occurs. In males four haploid sperm cells are produced, versus one haploid egg cell in females. In egg cells polar bodies are formed to attach cytoplasm because egg cells are larger. The cells of male and female are differentiated after meiosis two. In females the meiosis process is not a constant development but rather it is hindered at times. These sex cells production is linked to…

The genus name Apis refers to honey bees (Michael Wilson 2009). The difference between an Apis and a Non-Apis bee is the fact that honey bees (Apis) store more excess honey and pollen, hence the name honey bee. This concept is very easy to grasp, but there are 10 different types of honey bees and one hybrid that are in this family so they can be easily confused as many of them look similar (Buzz about Bees, 2010). Honey bees are also different than other types of bees in that their colonies are much larger. A colony normally consists of 1 queen, nearly 50,000 workers, 300 drones, around 9000 larvae, and on top of that there are about 600 eggs that haven’t even hatched yet. The workers are what do the pollination so that is what the study hones in…

Honey bees are one of the matriarchies in the insect kingdom. Colonies consist of one queen, a lot of male worker bees, and a few male drones. Ninety-five percent of the worker bees are female. A healthy hive is occupied by a collection of many generations. Tasks are divided up by age and colony through an intricate system of communication. Younger worker bees tend to the queen and the baby bees. Older worker bees forage for food and water for the colony, convert nectar into honey, construct wax cells and clean the cells, and guard the hive from invader. These worker bees are the bees that develop stingers to defend the eggs laid by the queen. Drones have only one purpose, to mate with the queen. The queen will only leave the hive once in her lifetime, and that is to mate…
