1 Overview

This qualification is for anyone working in, or hoping to take up a role in assessment and internal quality assurance. There are awards and a certificate at level 3 in assessment. These units and qualifications provide people who carry out assessment roles in their organisation with the opportunity to develop and improve their practice as well as achieving a professional qualification for their roles.

The qualifications consist of a mix of units - some competence-based and some knowledge-based units. The knowledge-only unit (which are titled 'Understanding the principles and practices of assessment') allow anyone who is interested in or needs to know about assessment and quality assurance - but is not a practitioner - to acquire knowledge and information about the roles. Successful achievers will understand the principles of assessment and internal quality assurance and have the knowledge to develop and improve systems at their centre.
2 The Units in 6317
The full certificate is made up of 3 units (301 – 303) each of which contains a series of subsections: The full details of the units, their assessment and the evidence required are shown in appendix 1. A summary is shown below.

    The IQA also provides support to all involved in the assessment process from start to finish by making sure candidates and employers understand the qualification and the benefits to both upon completion, giving support through service level agreements underpinning knowledge of policies and procedures through visits where discussions and feedback will be given.
