INPLANT TRAINING REPORT

ASHOK LEYLAND, ENNORE

INTRODUCTION

Ashok Leyland is a leading national and international truck and bus manufacturer and a part of the Hinduja group with a vision of being in the global top 10 in the M&HCV trucks(>7.5T GVW) segment and top be in the global Top 5 in M&HCV busses(8 m & above) segment.
Ashok Leyland Ennore plant is the first Ashok Leyland plant and is also the mother plant accounting to almost 40% of the total production of AL. This plant manufactures vehicles and important aggregates like engines, gearboxes and axles. Employing over 5000 people this plant is huge spread over 135 Acers.
We have been given the privilege to undergo in plant training at this facility for duration of a week from 4th of June 2013. This training is important for us as we get to learn the various manufacturing processes involved in the trucks and busses manufacturing and we also get to learn the way a world class manufacturing plant functions .

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We thank the HR Ashok Leyland for giving us the opportunity for the in plant training ,we thank the guided , the shop managers and the shop floor workers for being patient and spending some time in enlightening us on the various processes involved in the manufacturing of the vehicles. We also thank our college and our faculty for facilitating the requirement of in plant training in our curriculum and also teaching us to become good engineers.

Day 1
SHOP IV: REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY

Our first shop visit in the training which involved the assembly of rear axels of various AL truck and bus models. The processes we observed are-
1. Axle casings were loaded onto pedestals and correct positioning of LH and RH sides were ensured.

2. Wire strips, axle shafts, plastic caps were removed on both sides and placed on skid.
