Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907 in Coyoacán, Mexico. Her full name is Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Caldrón. Frida was a famous artist during the Mexican Revolution. She also claimed to be three years younger, due to the fact that she felt that her life began with the development of modern Mexico. At the age of six she was diagnosed with polio, causing her left leg to be much bigger than her right. She suffered from polio her whole life. Frida did not intend for art to be her occupation. She attended pre med school in Mexico City until she suffered from a severe bus accident. The accident caused her to be in the hospital for a year and during this time she began to paint. She is mostly known for her self portraits and still life. She has created over 200 paintings and drawings that are significant to her life in the time period in which she lived. She married another famous Mexican artist, Diego Rivera, who was 20 years older than her. In 1953 she had her first solo exhibition of her paintings in Mexico City. She died on July 13, 1954.
