Advantages & Disadvantages
Their is plenty of advantages and disadvantages to artificial sweeteners and fat replacements, like most people use the artificial sugars to lose weight. They choose it because it “limits their food energy intake by replacing high-energy sugar or corn syrup with other sweeteners having little or no food energy.”(1) People also choose the artificial sweeteners because it does not cause plaque on your teeth, it does not limit people with diabetes from enjoying sweets, and it is also more cheaper than real sugar. Fat substitutes “decrease the quantity of fat in foods and help people lower their fat intake” (2) There is proof that people who use fat replacements have reduced their fat and calorie intake. A disadvantage on artificial sweeteners is that not all are calorie free, “In fact, some have almost as many calories as sugar” (3) Some disadvantages of the artificial sugars is that they might cause nausea, depression, headaches, and it might effect the liver and kidney’s.
Personally I would use the artificial sweeteners, I use them now and I do not think that I will stop. I like my Pepsi and other candies, I don’t think I can give that up just yet. Maybe in the future I will since I know what they can do to the body.
