By understanding the changing needs of the market, Amazon has identified the appropriate product that can satisfy its customers. Reading is a hobby for many people and many desire to do so but find it impractical carrying books around and find they have little time to read them. Thus by digitialising books, they have given customers the ability to read anywhere and everywhere. By offering the free app to smart phones, this is especially convenient as most people use smart phones every minute of every day and thus this encourages more people to read as they…

Proponents of tablets say that they are supported by most teachers and students, are much lighter than print textbooks, and improve standardized test scores. They say that tablets can hold hundreds of textbooks, save the environment by lowering the amount of printing, increase student interactivity and creativity, and that digital textbooks are cheaper than print textbooks.…

Reading is my life. It’s my escape from the world around me. I love getting lost in a story about monsters and myths, or a Cinderella gone wrong. If I didn’t draw as much as I did, I’d probably be the anti-social bookworm in the back, like in all those cliche teenage love stories. It’s actually quite surprising to see how many people dislike books, there’s nothing wrong with a little reading every once and awhile. But who am I to judge? I wasn’t a very big reader myself until maybe two years ago. Of course, that leads to the first reason why I enjoy reading so much.…

When I entered school, I loved to read all the books in my classroom, but I never like having to write about those same things. This has followed me throughout school. I loved to read all of the children’s books in the bookshelves. The stories fascinated me with all the places to visit and people that I could see. I would always look forward to being able to read new books.…

Can you imagine that the world’s youngest billionaires and the best known co-founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, quit his occupation just to have stress free environment in order to curl up with a good book? Well, Carol Shields would do anything to curl up with a good book as she explained in her essay of “The Case for Curling Up with a Book”. Shields published this essay in 1997 to persuade people to read without any interruptions. She encouraged us to use our brain to the fullest since reading requires a lot of concentration. Besides, she was reminding us the reasons and the passion to read. Curling up with a book requests time and solitude, demands our full attention and requires us to get into the reading.…

The reason why e-readers like the Kindle or the Nook are cheaper than a normal tablet like the iPad is because they are specialized for the purpose of reading digital books, and thus lack the computing capacity as well as storage for any major actions. Take the example of the Kindle Paperwhite, one of the best selling e-readers in the market, which does not have the capacity of checking emails. Moreover, one can disable all distraction of the internet while reading e-reader. I’d like to bring into attention a personal example: My roommate Dimitri, who reads novels using the kindle religiously every night. It is highly possible for one to remove all digital distraction and engage a literary work deeply despite its…

I love to read because of my mother. When I was young I disliked reading and preferred to watch movies instead. To get me to enjoy reading my mother would read stories to me and I would read along with her. One day my mother read only classic books from our houses to San Antonio, Texas. We read Little women, Great Expectations, Treasure Island, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Ten Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, plus more. I remember how her voice made the words on the pages come to life. She would very her tone for each character and made each one unique. It was like watching a one man play. I soon wanted to read the stories by myself because I was always in a rush to know the ending; reading to myself was faster than my mother reading aloud to me. Every time I read I can still…

A way to catch up on what's new in the world whether it’s tv shows, fashion, music, celeb reality, gossip, or news. What I do not agree with is the ability to let the use of electronics overpower real quality time. I do think at some point families should be together talking and enjoying eachother’s company. Too much indulging can cause lack of intimacy between spouses or partners. You never want to get too ahead of yourself and too wrapped up that you forget to cherish life and the ones you love. Polly and Mark Wolkstein told Williams that on several occasions that they’ll be so into their own cyber-world that efforts to sit and watch a movie often fail. Dr. Koepnick also states that “If you go back 200 years, there were similar complaints about technological devices but it was books” she also added “The family room filled with different people reading books created a lot of concerns and anxiety, particularly regarding women, because all of a sudden they were on their own. Their minds were drifting into area that could no longer be controlled”. I agree with this. For me, Reading is my downtime. Sometimes i’ll start reading and completely forget about the world surrounding me. When I read I drift off into a different place. It’s an opportunity to learn new thing or escape the real world reality using imagination. I think Dr. Koepnick was trying to convey that between then and now, the issue with overindulging is…

Because my childhood was so filled with literature, the fact that reading is such a substantial part of my life is somewhat expected. The reading material I read then has helped me become the person I am today. As young as Second Grade, I had already read the Harry Potter series, and countless other chapter books that had helped shape my childhood. Even though my preferred genre has evolved since then, my avidity for reading has not faltered. Because of my reading, I learned how valuable the skill of, not only being able to read, but being able to comprehend the text you had read is.This skill has assisted me mature intellectually, such as last year. When I was exposed to new reading material for school, I gained the ability to, not only read more advanced books, but to realize the message that the author was portraying in their novel…

One of the major factors which is tipping the balance against textbooks is the cost. A wide majority of students are price conscious. Now if an ebook is available at 5$, who in their right mind will spend 80 to 100 $ from their hard earned cash to buy a book, which other then being cheaper offers them numerous other advantages. Convenience is one of the main reason why tablets are preferred over textbooks. 1500 adults in England were questioned about their reading habits by DJS Research for ‘Book trust’ and 73% of the students who own tablets prefer digital format over print for reading textbooks. (Booktrust Reading Habits Survey 2013).They provide easy portability as their thin structure and light weight makes them easier to carry around and use in schools and universities. One Kindle can store over 10,000 books, so tablets overcome the problems of books taking up a lot of space. Student’s school bags are often very heavy and may cause long-term health problems and…
