The article I read is called, “Road to $25 Billion: Where could the NFL’s revenue growth come from?” The aspiration of getting to $25 billion was introduced during an annual owners meeting in Orlando in 2010. This number was figured based on the amount of money the NFL needed to compete as a global entertainment brand. They wanted the NFL to compete not only against other sports leagues but also against well-known companies such as Apple. The league hopes to reach this goal by 2027. As of 2012, the NFL had $9.5 billion of revenue. In order to reach their goal, they will have to average over $1 billion dollars of revenue annually for the next 15 years.…

In his "Opinion | A Radical Idea for Health-care Reform: Listen to the Doctors,” David Ignatius critiques that the “political doctors’” failure to improve the US’s ever deteriorating health care system and prompts for the people to move towards not just treating diseases but rather preventing them. The Department of Veteran Affairs objectives has always been the same, even as problems arise. In 2012, there were many reports that veterans are experiencing long extended wait times for medical services. There were allegations that veterans have died while waiting to be seen by physicians. As a result of these reports, Congress directed an audit to be conducted on the Veterans Affairs Health Care System. During the review, several discrepancies were identified in the area of medical scheduling. The reason thousands of veterans had been waiting for medical care was due to not properly being entered on an electronic waiting list. The audit also revealed that many appointment schedulers in the Health system had not received proper training. In correcting this issue, all schedulers were trained, and veterans were properly scheduled on the electronic list to receive care quickly. The scheduling discrepancy caused a backlog of an abundant number of…

A change from just being happy to care for one’s patients day or night to “you have to have money and insurance for me to treat you.” Gone are the days that one could walk into a hospital and not have to worry about how he or she was going to pay the bill, gone are the days that having insurance was one’s own choice, and gone are the days that choosing one’s personal doctor was by whom a person liked and not by who accepted one’s insurance.…

Curt Devine with CNN spoke with Sen. Tom Coburn, a physician, and Devine reported that Coburn said, “that if the VA's budget had been properly handled and the right management had been in place, many of these deaths could have been avoided” (par. 4). The VA department lost billions of dollars as a result of the substandard management and that is ruining the medical care of the veterans (Devine par. 6). About 1.5 billion more than usual was spent on construction of four VA hospitals, and a substantial amount of money went toward paying legal settlements (Devine par. 9). The report says, “Since 2001, the VA has paid about $845 million in malpractice costs, of which $36.4 million was used to settle claims involving delayed health care” (Devine par. 10). The staff and environment of the VA hospitals were defective as well, this can be shown by the outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease, a rare form of pneumonia, in 2011-2012. The spreading of the disease was not because of damaged equipment, rather a human mistake. In Pittsburgh at least six veterans died from the severe outbreak of the disease (Zezima par. 18). A report taken by CNN revealed the corrupt staff, it declares, “crimes committed by VA staff, including drug dealing, theft and sexual abuse of patients dating back many years” (Devine par. 14). At the VA in Florida a staff member was sentenced six years in…
