Leadership trait theory has it that leaders are born with certain qualities or traits. Some of
these traits are honesty, ability to influence others, foresight, and intelligence. This approach to
the study of leadership believes that certain traits are associated with proficient leaders and these
traits are inherent. They were born with these traits. Identifying these traits in a person therefore
means identifying a leader or potential leader. People are born with certain qualities and traits
that makes them potential leaders. “It therefore focuses on the difference in individuals”
(Cherry2010) where these difference are based on the individual character traits of the person
and how it makes you a potential leader or not. It has it that some people are natural leaders and
they are endowed with certain skills that others do not have. Managerial success is however
attributed to these special qualities such as inspirational, intelligent, penetrating intuition,
foresight and the ability to influence others. Leaders from this category are exhibit the ability to
influence others for the achievement of set goals. They have a good foresight. A good leader
needs foresight. A leader should be able to see opportunities when others do not.
However, there are others with the opinion that, the idea that leadership traits are inherent
and unchangeable appears to be untrue. The trait approach has it that people with traits like
