When applying the learning curve concept to a specific situation, the individual must first understand and comprehend the concept of the learning curve. According to Chase, Jacobs, and Aquilano (2006), “a learning curve is a line displaying the relationship between unit production time and the cumulative number of units produced”. Mario Pizzeria is looking for ways to improve upon customer wait times. The current wait time for customers is at least seven to nine minutes during peak times. This has left the customers frustrated and some leave without being served, thus affecting the profits of the restaurant. By looking at various scenarios, the management can decide how to operate more effectively.
Applying the learning curve concept will allow the managers to improve their performance process. The main aspects of the learning curve concept are that the time involved to complete a task will steadily decrease each time the task is performed, the decreased amount of time will follow a predictable pattern, and the time will decrease at a decreasing rate according to the task at hand.
The more repetitive the task, the better the adaption and the service of the customers will be. The organization should learn from the results of their processes as well as changes in product design, equipment, and administration (Chase, Jacobs, & Aquilano, 2006). The simulation allows the user to use a series of steps to improve the efficiency of the pizzeria. The efficiency of how the tables are being used was looked at in the first of weeks. This was based on how the groups were set at the top. The number of cooks and wait staff needed was looked at as well.
