Group Dynamics is when a small group interacts with each other. I will be summarizing my interpretations of the group development phases, and giving an example of each, describing the difference between groups and teams, Identify common group roles with explanations, and explain the roles that will align with my strengths and weaknesses. Developing group skills is fundamental for beneficial group work.
Every group or team goes through the stages of team development. The forming stage takes place when everyone in the team meets each other for the first time. They each share their backgrounds, and hobbies; forming feelings about each other. They attain what project(s) they have to work on and decide what role each person will mask on the team. For example, the team leader should determine which role each person will be on the team. As the team starts to work as a group, they enter into the storming stage. In this stage, each person on the team emulates with each other for who will come up the best ideas. Each person has a different presumption on what needs to be done, and how it needs to be done; they tend to clash with each other. For example, even though they cannot come up with an idea; they turn to their team leader which guides them to solve their problems. When the team proceeds into the norming stage, they are preparing to work adequately as a team. In this stage, they are concentrating on expanding ways to work together. They start to see the different values on the team, and give advice how to get the job done. For example, one person may begin to work on the project own their own; but the team comes together and finishes it. The team is finishing on what they started. They are working together, and beginning to trust each other. They are aroused to get the job done. The team leader will assist when decisions need to be made within the alignment.
