Should apes be exempt from medical experimentation?
Of course! Apes should definitely be exempt from medical experimentations. Apes are animals that are declining in population, looking at that fact that does not give us the right to use them in medical experiments. Apes should be considered and declared as legal persons and should also share the same rights as humans. Apes have feelings, just like humans, it is a proven fact; they have the right to be free, and shouldn’t be held responsible as a main medical experiment.
Apes are definitely decreasing in population, the wild population is approximately 200 000, and it is dropping quite drastically. The apes are decreasing due to the conversion of forest to farmland, logging, mining, hunting for bush, and poaching for pets. Another reason they are decreasing is due to medical experimentation and any other experiments to relate with science. In 2007 alone a sum of 3.13 million animals were used in experimentation in the U.K alone, throughout the world it is estimated that 50 million animals are used for research and experiments each year. Throughout these researches they take blood samples, they give the animals pain killers so they don’t feel as much pain, but when it comes to operations most of the animals don’t come out alive. These apes shouldn’t have to go through this cruelty, they are practically like humans, the main difference between us and apes is basically communication. Imagine being mute, being captured by people you have never met or seen in your lifetime, and then being operated on, not knowing what will happen to you or what the outcome will be. This is exactly what the apes go through.
