It’s silent, yet deadly. Names for it are “weed, Mary Jane, pot, joint, grass.” It’s Marijuana. People abuse this substance every day, but do they really know what the harmful effects it’s doing to their body? Marijuana is the most commonly used illegal drug in the United States and its effecting people like you and me every day. Some of the thousands short term effects of this drug are distorted perceptions, difficulty thinking and solving problems, euphoria, memory impairment and slower reaction time. The list goes on and on. Now do you really want these things happening to you? Marijuana is commonly used for a stimulant, depressant, hallucinogen etc. But it could lead to anxiety, panic attacks, impaired balance and coordination, respiratory infections and most of all an ADDICTION. Who wants to say that they want to grow up and be an addict? Having an addiction to anything can ruin the function of family, friends, school, work, sports, and other activities. On estimate there are about 9 percent of users that become addicted. You could be in that percentage. People addicted to Marijuana and try to quit suffer with harsh withdraws like; irritability, sleeplessness, loss of appetite, anxiety and drug craving. Ways to prevent these things? Don’t ever take or abuse this drug, simple as that. It is estimated that users of Marijuana have a 4.8 times increase in the risk of heart attack in the first hour after smoking the drug. It’s also estimated that Marijuana smoke contains 50 to 70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons that tobacco smoke, and marijuana smokers inhale more deeply and longer which further increases the lungs’ exposure to the smoke. Studies showed that heavy marijuana user’s physical and mental health, social life, abilities and career status has been ruined by taking this drug.
