Many things have gone through my head when I think of the possibilities I would have if I ever won the lottery. Although it does seem like a huge stretch, I do often think of what I could do with such a large sum of money. Many people could only hope to have the opportunities that come with winning the lottery. I do know that my winnings would be put to many great uses along with of course a few special treats of my own. A few I can name that would benefit from my winnings would be charities, family, friends, and of course myself.…

“This is hard. Harder than I expected, even with your help. But I have been practicing, and my preparations go well. I am coming to save your friend’s life, and my own.” This is a quote from the first note Miranda receives from the anonymous person in the book When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead. A 12 year old girl named Miranda lives in New York City in the 1970’s. She gets notes from an anonymous person who can predict the future. The notes ask her to cooperate to the directions given in order to save someone’s life. She must choose to follow the mysterious directions or simply ignore them. Miranda has many relationships throughout the story that have misunderstood conflicts that get resolved. She has tons of relationships throughout the…

The very first song, “Creep” by Radiohead was chosen by our group to start off the playlist because we thought this song could broadly show Holden Caulfield’s character. The most important part about this song is the lyrics. This song is about a person who doesn’t feel like he is very special, and that he does not fit in anywhere. “But I’m a creep. I’m a weirdo.” Although Holden never really talks about how he thinks of himself, he regards himself lowly when he talks about Phoebe or Allie. He respect them because they’re what he thinks are good kids. Because of past experiences, and Holden’s distant personality, people think he’s weird. Holden tries not to let that get to him, but deep down, he knows it too. He knows that he can be different from the others, and the way he think contrasts many of the same age. “What the hell am I doing here? I don’t belong here.” This part of the lyrics shows how Holden doesn’t feel like he fits in anywhere. He has been to more than five different schools—all where he couldn’t find a single place to fit in to. In his opinion, he isn’t accepted anywhere, but he doesn’t easily accept others, either. This is the reason for Holden’s loneliness, because he has changed his surroundings (his school) so many times, he’s always away from his family members, and he can’t open up to anyone. The soft sounds of the guitar show these little worries and insecurities hidden inside Holden’s mind. “Creep” is the first song chosen in our playlist as a way to show the internal emotions of Holden, and what the story is about: Holden trying to find a fitting place as he wanders New York, and the complicated thoughts of a teenager, not yet an adult, but not a child anymore.…
