Imagine waking everyday in fear, having someone inject you with chemicals or rubbing products in your eyes just to see how you react to them.   Tim Townes, a scientist, injected a mouse with a hypodermic needle full of an experimental drug, changing the rodent’s genes so that it wouldn’t carry the human sickle cell disease. Thanks to Townes experiment the mouse’s blood cell have become round and unsickle cell shaped. With the knowledge Townes has found he decides to test and find treatments for sickle cell anemia.   Sure his finding will help many sick sickle cell carriers, but is that an excuse for the mouse’s pain? This is an example of how many animals live every day, bred to be tested on and most often killed.   Animal testing is the use of non - human animals in research and development projects, especially for purposes of determining the safety of substances such as food or drugs.   Every year millions of animals suffer and are put through painful tests. Scientists inject many animals with drugs and study how they affect the animal.   Animals have medical procedures performed on them such as transplants before testing them on humans. Not only is animal testing inhumane, it is also inaccurate.
Animals are tested on for various reasons including medical, cosmetic and scientific. In hopes of finding cures and testing the safety of product, scientists put animals through tests.   These tests involve the animal being injected with drugs to find a possible cure for cancer, AIDS, and many other diseases.   Thousands of animals are killed by cosmetic companies every year. These tests are done to see how different cosmetics affect the skin, eyes, and toxicity of many substances used. Thousands of animals are often blinded, have skin problems and a lot of times die.   Lethal dosage tests are done to evaluate the amount of a certain substance that will kill an animal.
