Animal Mummies
Wilcox,Charlotte

This book mostly took place in the late 1900's, in Northern Russia. It was written in third person. It desribes animal mummies, some of the most famous animal mummies and where they have been found, how animal mummies were mummified, how scientist studied them, and what they can teach us about the past.

Animal mummies were started by Egyptians. They mummified various animals. An enormous part of Egyptian culture, not only in their role as food and pets, but also for religious reasons. They were typically mummified for four main purposes to allow beloved pets to go on to the afterlife, to provide food to the afterlife, to act as offerings to a particular god, and because some were seen as physical mainfestations of specific gods that the Egyptians worshipped.

In 1888, an Egyptain farmer digging in the sand near Istabl Antar discovered a mass grave of feliness, ancient dogs that were mummified and buried in pits at great numbers. A Zharkov mammoth was a very enomorous animal that look like a elephant, with very large tusk and today its extinct. I think this mammoth was a very hairy and dangerous animal. In 1987, two boys discovered tusks poking out of the frozen ground in Siberia. They great discover was the Zharkov mammoth named after the Zharkov family.

Egyptians mummified and scarified animals. They believed a certain animal represented each god. Animals were mummified after they died, and they offered these mummies a gift of sacrificed animals. When its hot and dry a dead body tissue cannot grow, it will mummify without water, bacteria, and fungi.

Cats was a very powerful god to the Egyptians. They worshipped them everyday and broughrt more animals to them. Every time a cat died they mummified them and put them in a tomb stone. I think everybody over the world should read about this because, this book can educate you on mummies. Most scientist should read it to help them understand it more.
