Manor Farm, England. This is the setting of the story Animal Farm by George Orwell. Orwell wrote this novel to be a direct parallelism to the Russian revolution, to explain what happened during it. In this book, the animals start a revolution against Mr. Jones, the farmer. They end up in worse condition than when the farmer was in charge because the pigs are calling themselves dictator and the animals have abuse and the animals are becoming more laborious than ever before. Eventually, the animals on the farm revert back to their old ways. The technique of the use of language used throughout this story is evident and effective because it occurs when Napoleon convinces the animals that Snowball is bad, the commandments have added words to fit the pig’s needs, and when Boxer was taken away, Squealer convinces the animals that it is okay. Throughout the course of the story, the use of language to persuade the animals is evident. First of all, Napoleon, an extremely amoral pig, convinces the animals that Snowball is the enemy through the voice of Squealer, the pig, in Animal Farm. Squealer, the speaker of Napoleon, constantly tells the animals of Animal (Manor) Farm how bad Snowball is to the farm and is incessantly asking “Do you want Jones back?” because that is apparently what will happen if Snowball rules over the farm. Three weeks after Napoleon’s pack of dogs chases Snowball out of the farm, the animals have a meeting about the windmill that was going to be built. Squealer told the animals that Napoleon ever was against the windmill, “He had seemed to oppose the windmill, simply as a manoeuvre to get rid of Snowball, who was a dangerous character and a bad influence. Now that Snowball was out of the way, the plan could go forward without his interference” (Orwell 71). With this, the reader can tell that Napoleon and Squealer are sabotaging Snowball because Napoleon was against the windmill until Snowball went away and then he was all for the idea. The fact...
