Animal Biology- Issues and Ethics Paper

Designer babies are genetically engineered babies where you can choose how you want your baby to look like, the mentality and physical traits the child will be born with. Designer babies use to be a dream in the science field but with all this fast advancement of technology it can be a high possible thing to do pretty soon. If you had the opportunity to design your own child to what you wanted, would you? If you ask me I would say that is wrong to do so unless it is to prevent a dieses or a disability. I can see why people would want to, so that they can give their child the best and try to give a successful life as possible to their child. But think about it, if everyone took the opportunity to design their own child, then everyone would be the same. There would not be a difference in society everyone would be the same. It use to be if people weren’t good enough they would train and study to become better but now people are wanting to use science to enhance the areas one may not be very good in. Over the last ten years this topic has been a big topic of debate, the topic of human enhancement using science. There is a lot of debates about ‘designing your own baby’ like if parents have the right to change the genetic code of their child to what they want?, or if it will bypass all the character experiencing trials and make the child feel above and superior to all the children who were not genetically modified? After birth a child is shaped into the person they are by how they are brought up, and by the environment they are raised in. It shapes them emotionally, physically, and mentally. In an article I read “Ethics of the future” it says that some people could argue this. The article said that “everything we do develop our selves is ‘enhancement’ of our natural state” it could be learning a new instrument or foreign language, or when we get braces to fix our teeth, or even have surgery to make our bodies look differently from what we were born with.
