Animal Bill of Rights

“Body Paragraphs” PARA 1:
I believe animals do not need a Bill of Rights because they already have plethora of laws that protect all of their basic needs. For example, Germany has already passed laws to protect the basic rights of Ape’s. In the article “primates” they said, “The Green Party in Germany is preparing two bills supporting the Great Ape Project”(Yong). Another way that animals already have their rights protected is, Dogs have shelters and pounds to go to if they have no home or are left on the street, you are also not allowed to beat them or have dog fights with them. The human society states that, “Dogfighting is a felony offense in all 50 states…and… dogs used in these events often die of blood loss, shock, dehydration, exhaustion, or infection hours or even days after the fight”(Humane Society). PARA 2: Another reason that animals don’t need a Bill of Rights is because they are a huge factor in medical advancements. For example, one of the animals that would most likely get the most “rights” would be a dog, this would ban experiments on dogs that are critical for the benefits to humans. For example, “dogs were vital to the development of angioplasty as a treatment or preventive measure for heart attacks and other heart conditions in humans”(SUBR). We must do experiments on animals first for the well being of humans. In “primates” Yong says, “ testing to find a cure cannot be accessed by experiments on or with humans”(Yong).

PARA 3: The last reason that animals don’t need a Bill of Rights, is that humans come first over animals with low cognitive ability. For example, they talk about how a fish can remember its path to run away from predators. But that doesn’t prove that they feel pain and shows that they really aren’t smart at all. They say, “they can learn geometrical relationships and landmarks”(Braithwaite). Another reason is that we haven’t even defined pain for ourselves,

Why should the rights that were fought for by our late independent heroes and civil right activists be extended to non-human animals that could not socially speak for themselves? Since animals do not have the capacity to personally fight for their rights, granting what humans had put in their blood for to enjoy to non-human animals will be a scenario of robbing Peter to pay Paul and hence an injustice to humans. Therefore animal rights movement is simply a misguided attempt to force people to grant animals the same qualities, needs and desires as human beings. While this movement is born out of kindness and sympathy, I think it is completely misguided because non-human animals are in actual sense, equal to human beings and hence do not deserve equal right as enjoyed by human…

Animals deserve rights because just like humans, they feel excruciating pain, suffer and have feelings. One would argue that animals don’t experience emotions? But the answer is of course they do. It is emotions that allow animals to display various behavior patterns. According to the theory of utilitarianism, all sentient beings should be given consideration in the society and this includes both animals and humans. Also, animals cannot speak for themselves and for this reason they should be treated equally, protected and given the same respect as human beings. Peter singer’s approach also supports the argument on equal consideration in that animals deserve the same respect as human beings but just in a different view. In today’s society humans exploit animals for milk, meat, fur, scientific experimentation etc. and animals are constantly injured or killed. Their pain and sufferings should be taken into consideration, as this unjust treatment is morally unacceptable. Similarly speciesism is an…

Non-humans has been there longer than humans in the history. Humans have taken for granted of the non humans because we humans are the most dominated in the food web. Also humans don’t realize how much pain we could cause to non humans. Both article “A Change of Heart about Animal” by Jeremy Rifkin and “Hooked on a myth” by Victoria Braithwaite states that humans don’t really care for animals and want change to treat animals fairly. However, humans do not feel any type of emotions, take for granted and treated them unright; therefore Bill of Rights for the for the U.S should be created for animals because they could be happy, safe and treat them right.…

Nowadays, animals are in danger of dying out, at least one million animal species have already disappeared since 1980. Worse still, as the using of hunting, laboratories, and commercial getting common, the number of animal species decreases faster and faster, and this phenomenon will continue if no one come out and speak up for the animals. Today, animal right is a highly contentious issue. Do animals have rights? Philosophers have different standpoints. In “The Case for Animals Rights” which is written by Tom Regan, Regan states that animals should have fundamental rights as humans, and also be protected from the unnecessary harm. In addition, in Peter Singer’s article “All Animals Are Equal”, he has the same standpoint as Regan that animals should have the same principles that human received. In contrast, in the article “The Case of the Use of Animals in Biomedical Research” by Carl Cohen, he supports Regan in his moral theory, however, he argues that animals should not have rights, and he also points out that the using of animals in medical research is important. “The Case for Animal Rights”, “All Animals are Equal” and “The Case of the use of Animals in Biomedical Research” let us know that although hurting animals is not unlawful, it’s morally wrong; for the purpose of protecting animals, people must change their beliefs.…

Since the beginning of time animals have walked the Earth with man. They have been used for food, clothing, friends, pets, and for other things. Many people believe that hurting an animal for personal gain is inhumane, but I disagree. A “Bill of Rights” for animals, I believe, is unnecessary in that animals wouldn’t even realize that they withhold such a powerful thing. They are needed by humans for survival, and finally if the laws on how we can treat animals is changed, companies would now have to re-learn the steps in properly caring for an animal before killing/experimenting with it. Animals do not need their own “Bill of Rights.”…

What is the moral status of non-human animals? Do they have rights? This question, and all of it's complex entities, stands at the forefront among the most debated and philosophically dissected issues. To prove whether or not animals have rights without a doubt would forever change our treatment and use of animals as well as the world in which we live. The consequences of a definitive answer to the animal rights debate are numerous and profound which is why the issue continues to be argued for or against with the harshest of scrutiny. It is the goal of this essay to present and analyze justifiable argument for and against the concept of animal rights. Tom Regan is widely regarded as one of the greatest assets for the defense of animal rights. Carl Cohen denies the existence of said right. While they stand on opposite poles of this issue, they both agree that "What we conclude about animal rights will have consequences for the food we eat and the clothes we wear, and it will have direct bearing on the kinds of science we think morally justifiable."(viii)…

The idea that we are all born with rights, such as life, power of choice and happiness are the main aspects of our daily lives. However, many of us humans inconsiderately forget that animals also deserve these equal rights also. Animals are entitled to a painless, content life in their own natural environments. Animals should also not be exploited for experimental use nor detained in small cages. These actions are simply injustice and deprive the poor animals of their well-deserved rights. I firmly believe that this is unacceptable and we humans should find humane alternatives to these filthy acts of harm immediately!…

Humans have stronger rights than animals since we can reason rationally. We use animals to eat them, play with them, and wear their skins. Most vital, we use them as test subjects for medical purposes. The research has led us to discoveries which have saved millions of lives. The outcomes have led to immunizations against polio, mumps, hepatitis, diphtheria, and rubella; which have saved countless lives. (Gale, 2)…
