Angels & Demons
From the moment people had learned how to set the frontiers between good and evil, they began to believe in the confrontation between the two opposing sides, i.e. the forces of light and the forces of darkness. While some creatures, for example, angels, are trying to help people, the other creatures, demons, do in an opposite way, trying to push people to the inappropriate actions and thoughts, i.e. to the sins. Let us have a closer look at these two theological terms. The word “angel” has Greek origin and it means “messenger”. According to the theological studies, since the creation of the universe, there were no differences among the angels. They were created by God and worshiped to Him. However, Lucifer (Raphael) who was the most intelligent, beautiful and beloved angel imagined himself equal to God and turned against Him. The Lord cast Lucifer and the other angels who succumbed and followed him into the Abyss. Since then, the former favorite angel was called Satan or the Devil, and his servants turned into demons (Catholic encyclopedia, n.d). Angels had been created by God before He created a man. They are considered to be the disembodied spirits. However, angels have an opportunity to visit the human world and become visible to the human eye. According to the holy books, the angels have some obligations and are responsible for the order in the universe. In the human world they can control the elements such as water, fire, wind, etc. The angels are believed to be the servants of God. By the will of God, they can intervene into the lives of people, although they are prohibited to give advice. It is believed that every person has a guardian angel of light and it can always help in an emergency. Personally, I have experienced the episode of angel’s help.
