Andy Warhol was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 6, 1928. He birth name was Andrew Warhola. He grew up in Pittsburgh, with his two older brothers and his parents, both of whom had emigrated from Czechoslovakia (Biography, 2012). His father was a construction worker, while his mother was an embroiderer. They were devout Catholics who attended mass regularly, and maintained much of their Slovakian culture and heritage (Biography, 2012). Andy attended Holmes Elementary school and took the free art classes offered at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, which is now the Carnegie Museum of Art.
