ANALYSIS
A. Theme
The theme of the story is about “death”. The whole story tells about Prince Prospero as human who has power in the country, and ‘Red Death’ who represents death. The images of them may makes us think that we cannot hide from the death. The death comes suddenly “like a thief in the night”. (paragraph 12) .

B. Genre
This is a horror story because tones such as ‘gothic’ and ‘dark’ is felt in this story. From the title we already know that is a creepy title, the word ‘death’ usually represents something like suspense, and it is what the story about. Edgar Allan Poe himself well known as the horror and suspense author.

C. Plot
I identified “The Masque of the Red Death” is using flash-forward plot. First of all, the story begins with the exposition of the “Red Death”, it explains in the first two paragraphs. “Red Death” is the pestilence that so hideous, which had long devastated the country. And then we meet Prince Prospero who locks him and his friends in his castellated abbeys. There is an external conflict between Prince Prospero and the “Red Death”. The story starts rising when Prince Prospero decides to throw the masque ball in his abbeys after about four or five month the disease spreads. The masque ball held in the odd apartments where a gigantic clock of ebony stood in the seventh apartment, in the middle of the night there is an uninvited guest who is “Red Death” comes and makes everyone are full with terror.

After that Prince Prospero gets mad, he try to kill the ‘Red Death’ with a badger but the one who death is himself because of the ‘Red Death’, this is where the climax. There was sharp cry of Prince Prospero, the badger falling upon the sable carpet (paragraph 11). And then falling action, one by one dropped the revelers in the blood-bedewed halls...
