Analysis of the novel "A Walk To Remember"
The novel A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks clearly conveys his thoughts on love. Sparks believes that love has a great power in that it is able to make a young girl named Jamie Sullivan happy even though she was suffering with Leukemia and knew she was going to die soon. I believe that this novel demonstrates that love prevails over all.

Love makes Jamie realize that it is important to live for the time she has by allowing herself to take risks such as falling in love and letting her list of dreams become reality. She was quickly taught thought Landon Carter's love not to dwell on the time she doesn't have, letting herself fade away to non existence, but to make her short life meaningful and full of the risks she only thought possible in her dreams. As death approaches Jamie, her love for Landon, whom is the trouble-maker boy she never thought she would even associate with, and the love he gives in return makes her life seem longer where thoughts of Leukemia do not exist. The love they share proceeds to not only make Jamie happy, but also turns Landon into a better person who sees people for who they are and not what they look like.

In A Walk to Remember the author is successful in conveying his thoughts on love through the main character of Jamie Sullivan. Jamie's life, short but meaningful, demonstrates how important it is to take risks such as letting yourself love someone without regret. I agree with Sparks views on love in that love prevails over

Love also influences all things. It is a powerful force that drives people to do things they would normally not do. In the news, there are several instances of murder in the name of love or robbing a bank because a person needs money for the person they love. There are also everyday instances of moving cross country for the person you love, leaving the person you love just to see them happy, or choosing another career path just to be with your significant other. Many would agree that love is blind, but if this is true how can it have the ability to allow people to see and feel things untouched by other emotions. It has the power to make any given person do extraordinary things, the ability to transform or destroy anybody completely all in one emotion, one thing is for sure, it gives people a greater purpose for existence, a reason to live and die for, something beyond them to devote their life. Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë and A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, are two popular, classic examples of love.…

The movie, A Walk to Remember, is an excellent example of the development of an interpersonal relationship. Jamie (played by Mandy Moore) is quiet and religious. Landon (played by Shane West) is outgoing and free-spirited. They moved in different social circles. Though they knew of each other through school, they really didn't know each other until they both were in the same school play. Landon did not want to reveal his feelings for Jamie to his circle of friends for fear of being ostracized from the group. Jamie had a secret crush on Landon, but would not act on her feelings in her initial contact with him. Through time, however, both Jamie and Landon came to terms with their feelings for one another, even though conflict and obstacles were a part of their everyday life. They went from being acquaintances to life partners when they exchanged wedding vows.…

Throughout both the novel and the movie, Jamie and Landon have many struggles in their relationship; the mockery of friends, the disapproval of family and a deadly sickness. Against all odds their love overcomes it all. In both the novel and the movie, Jamie says to Landon, “You have to promise you won't fall in love with me” (Sparks, p.44). Landon, thinking that she is joking, agrees to this. However, the audience does not know that Jamie has a rare form of leukemia and that is why she does not want Landon to fall in love with her. In A Walk to Remember, Jamie knows that Landon will fall in love with her and does not want him to get hurt so she states she will pray for him. Despite all of her efforts to push Landon away they eventually begin a relationship together. The novel and the movie have different manners of showing the theme that love conquers all. In the novel, Landon is frustrated as a result of the whole school knowing that he is walking Jamie home, and they are making fun of him for it. Jamie asks Landon what is wrong while walking home. He then yells, “I’ve just spent all day hauling crap, I haven’t eaten since lunch, and now I have to trek a mile out of my way to make sure you get home, when we both know you don’t even need me to do it” (Sparks, p. 124). Landon immediately feels guilty for yelling at Jamie and apologizes the next day. Nevertheless, Jamie forgives Landon right…

Love conquers all means that no matter what happens love can never be defeated and is unconditional. Death cannot extinguish the power of love. Love can overpower the hardships of life. In the film, when Landon is looking at the water, and thinking of Jamie, he states that “love is like the wind, you can’t see it but you can feel it.” This quote means that although love doesn’t have a certain appearance you can feel love’s effects in your heart. Landon will always be able to feel Jamie’s love. Even though, he can’t physically see Jamie, she will always remain in his heart. Therefore, love can conquer all and triumph over evil.…

The author of A Walk to Remember is Nicholas Sparks. He was born on December 31,1965. According to Wikipedia he is an internationally best selling American author. He writes novels with themes that include Christianity, love, tragedy, and fate. He is currently the author of 12 published novels; including: Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember, and The Notebook. He lives in New Bern, North Carolina with his wife Catherine and their five children. I believe his purpose for writing this piece was to show how opinions and special feelings for certain people can change in a short period of time. I think this because we seem to judge people before getting to know them. From reading this book it has shown me to not judge people from what they look like on the outside because they can turn out to be the complete opposite of what you imagined them as. The authors areas of expertise include being in black-belt tae-Kwon-do. An interesting fact is that he still holds the track and field record at the University of Nortre Dame. He graduated Valedictorian in 1984. Later on in his life he worked a variety of jobs including real-estate appraisal, waiting tables, selling dental products by phone and starting his own manufacturing business. His writing style manages to both pull in the reader and touch their heart. An example of this would be how he introduces you to each of the characters so you get to know them in-depth. He writes with deep emotion and really knows how to express feelings in an array of situations. As you start to get into the book you learn to love the characters and feel as if they are real people by the way Sparks writes. Something I could learn from this author could be to have a more positive outlook on life and to live it to the fullest because you never know when it will end. I could also learn that if I want something in life, if i try hard enough i will succeed.…
