Analysis Essay:
Through the authors’ use of pathos, allusion, and antithesis they show how the Declaration of Independence has held true for over 200 years. Throughout the Declaration of Independence there were many uses of rhetorical devises. This is why it has held true for over 200 years.

The rhetorical devise that was found and that will be used is pathos. Pathos is an emotional connection from the author to the audience. “Dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within”, this is the rhetorical device that was found from the Declaration of Independence. The authors tried connecting to the audience and making what they wrote more appealing when they wrote this. This applied to the Declaration of Independence because they were trying to say that they would take care of the invasions of people and things, while all the people had to worry about was their own problems and worries. As long as citizens took care of their business, they would take care of the rest.

During the Age of Reason there were many people that were called Deists. They believed that man could infer the existence of a supreme being from the fact that the universe exists rather than what the bible says. John Locke and Isaac Newton were Deists. John and Isaac played a role in the age of reason because these two men discovered “Physics” and “Metaphysics”. The use of allusion and antithesis in the Declaration of Independence play a vital role in the Age of Reason. “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal” is use of allusion in the Declaration of Independence. This applies to the age of reason because some people during that time discriminated against each other, and this document is saying that men shouldn’t be. “It is strongly absurd to suppose that a million human beings collected together are not under the same moral laws which bind each of them separately”.
