  1.0. Introduction
Thompson’s Pipeline Limited (Pipeline) was a modern, Ultamar gasbar and convenience store located at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Ruth Avenue in Mount Pearl. The site had originally opened for operation in mid-1986 under the management of Captain Quick Limited, a local chain of convenience stores.
While things were running smoothly for Thompson Pipeline Limited, there were some issues that affected the profitability of the business which needed to be addressed. When there are limited numbers of employees, this may leads to less specialization of works and resulted in fewer outcomes and its productivity decreases. Therefore, there are fewer amounts of sales of products which lead to lower profitability.
There was also poor inventory management since there was no computerized system used. Accounting and financial reports were not properly recorded, as well as the stock inventory was not being updated.
Furthermore, there were six competitors lied between 1km to 2km away from Thompson Pipeline Limited. There were two competitors for the gasbar, two competitors for the convenience store and other two were the large Petro-Canada gasbar, and convenience store under construction. These competitors had lead Paul to lower the price of the tobacco and he might cause price war to occur.
