An Unexpected Holiday By: Sumithra Kumar

What comes to your mind when I mention the word holiday? Obviously, fun, having a whale of a time, and sweet moments with our loved ones. None of us would consider the dangers that could happen during a holiday, unless the one who has experienced it. A couple of days ago, my dad told us that we will be heading to Johor the very next morning, for a vacation in Pulau Tioman. All of us were as eager as bridegrooms, filled with excitement and joy. We quickly started packing our clothes, and getting ready for the best holiday ever. We could not sleep the whole night long because we were imagining how much fun we were going to have. The next morning, we jumped out of our beds at around 5:00 a.m. We promptly washed up and headed to the ferry. It was a very long and arduous journey, yet we had a great time singing, laughing, and joking in the car. When we reached our destination, we met our cousin’s family. From there, we went to the ferry. When we stepped into the ferry we were almost thrown off from side to side, because of the big waves. It was actually a daunting experience. It took us about two hours to reach the island. Some of us actually slept off, especially our parents who were extremely exhausted because of the long drive. Once we reached Tioman Island, we quickly went into the chalet and changed into our swimming attire. Without wasting another moment, we jumped into the sea. My cousins and I had an awesome time splashing ourselves silly in the water together. The very same day, about 8:45 p.m., something incredible and unexpected happened. My little sister went missing. All of us were as pale as death. We did not know what to do at that time. We started to call for her, but there was no answer, not even an iota of her voice was heard.
