An Unexpected Experience This happened on Saturday of the 2006. I was a happy young of only 20 years. I already had a baby of one year old. I worked in two jobs during the whole week and on weekends I liked to have fun and spend time with my baby. That Saturday was celebrating a Carnival where they were good artists; they had machines, and delicious foods and drinks. I wanted to go to the Carnival to have great time with my baby. I had three friends. They were Ruth, Vanessa, and Jessica. They were youthful and they wanted to go with me to the Carnival. However, their moms did not give them permission so we decided to lie. I told to their moms that we would have a pajama party in my apartment. But the truth was that we went to the carnival to have a good time without knowing that we would be passing a terrible and unexpected experience. On the way to the Carnival we plan what we were going to do. Vanessa and Jessica wanted to meet new friends, eat, and have a good time. On the other hand, I just wanted to see my ex-boyfriend John. He was a good guy, but very unfaithful. I just wanted to see him and for my surprise I saw him in the Carnival. I saw him from a distance and I kept away from him. Instead of looking at John I went to play with my son Danny. The place was very crowded and I began to feel uncomfortable. My aunts always said that was not good to be in crowded places. My aunts said, “Keyla, you never know what might happen in those parties because unfortunately the young resolves everything with fights and guns, we say it for your sake.” These advices passed through my mind but I keep having fun with my baby and my friends. They felt happy to be in the Carnival, but scared because of the lie that we told to their moms. I and my friends were feeling tired of walk around the carnival that we decide to sit down to rest. We sit down and in front of us there were police officers armed as part

The story started when one night I snuck out of my house to go to a party, as a result, that night I slept over at a friend’s house and found a ride home the next morning. When the car pulled into the driveway the morning after, I thanked the driver and walked up to my front porch with a sly smile to greet my obviously frustrated parents. As my mom ushered me to sit down on one of the chairs on our front porch, I know that nothing good is going to…

Grace nodded slowly, with a private smile, stirring her coffee a few times before barking out a delighted laugh. The past is a place that can be visited easily enough, Jane thought, watching Grace smile wickedly through the retelling, enjoying her decades-old trick with a fresh glee. How shortly after receiving these vivid little jewels she had placed her red-painted lips all over the backside of that married lover's sky blue boxers. How he dressed in the dark of her tiny dormitory room, early morning. He had kissed her forehead while she pretended to sleep. And it was only when his footsteps were down the hall that she had allowed herself a torrent of laughter, like she enjoyed again now. It was hard to say what had happened next whether the fat schoolteacher wife saw them or not, but he called and cursed at her for a short while before she hung up. Jane joined in, before sputtering the almost scripted line "But why would you do this?". Grace adored the opportunity to explain her punishments.…

Hi, Melinda, it’s Thalia how are you? Last time I saw you were not speaking. I need you to trust me and tell me what happened to you that day at the party. I am aware that everyone is blaming you for calling the police. I’m sure that if you called the police it was for a good reason. Speak to me, I promise I won't say anything to your parents or your so-called friends. Remember how close we were before this incident happened we would always tell each other everything.…

My mom never screamed at me before and when she screamed he blamed me for letting him go outside without his permission. One sunny day, we were remodeling the living room so it can be more babyproof now that my brother was taller and could walk and run perfectly. We left the door open because it was too cold in the living room. We were moving the couch as we told Andres to move over so we don’t locate the couch on his feet. We were so busy moving the furniture that we totally forgot the baby of the family was walking towards the door. When we put the couch in our desired spot, we noticed Andres walking toward the street. We ran after him as quickly as we could as we saw a car moving in Andres’s direction. My dad sprinted like a track and field athlete towards his baby and caught him right in time. All of a sudden, my mom turned to me and blamed me for this incident. I felt like my side of the story wasn’t considered when I explained she told me to help her with the couch and it was really Andres’s fault. She couldn’t believe I was blaming a baby so she sent me to my room. I ran to my room crying, feeling as if Andres was the favorite child and I wished that I never had a…

The ‘non-identifiable’ cannot be understood by reason, but only through experience. It is “the putting into question of that which a man knows of being” (Bataille 4) that pushes most people towards desiring to put a label upon such an understanding. When doing such a thing, we are only staying connected to the subjects of the identifiable world when Bataille’s hope is for us to separate ourselves from this realm of existence and understanding.…

I was there for almost the whole day and into the night never realizing that I had lost my phone until I was already on the drive back home. What was even worse was that my phone case also played as my wallet. It had some cash, my driver’s license, and all of my credit cards in it. The following morning I called the venue to find out if there was anything turned in to the lost and found. To my disappointment, there wasn’t. I left a telephone number and address they could reach me in case something turned up. I was just about to start calling the credit card companies to cancel my cards when I received a phone call. It was from a police officer that was patrolling the area when a truck driver flagged him down. The truck driver had made a stop at Universal Citywalk before his long drive across country when he found my phone and wallet on the ground. He took it and brought it to the officers so that they could help track down the owner and since he needed to be on the road to the east coast. The officers then delivered it to my home address with everything in tact, including my cash! Although this was only one incident I experienced of the mysterious truck driver, it says a lot about his virtue ethics. The officers, although it is their duty to protect and to serve, show…

My six year old self was wearing a pink velvet hello kitty long sleeve shirt and jeans that had embroidered sparkles and butterfly designs. Obviously I was dressed to impress. After visiting with my parents for a couple weeks I was about to spend my first night with my new family. My mom is a petite Asian women but despite her small frame she is exerts confidence and has a Type A personality while my dad is a big white guy who is kind and is perfect for my mom because he is Type B personality. Upon meeting them I knew they were perfect for me because I coincidentally looked like my mom and had her stuberness but had my dad's soft side. I already had the night planned in my head, I would go and play then eat a delicious dinner and then convince my parents to watch The Little Mermaid before I had to go to bed. When I got to my new home I rushed to play doctor with the chocolate labs who would soon become my best friends. I was later called to dinner and that's where my vision of the perfect first night crashed and burned. On my plate was a grotesque pile of salad taking up at least a third of my plate. This was not acceptable in my book. I proceeded to give every excuse to not eat The Salad.…

My father’s truck stopped running a few weeks before Halloween, but before my family could share in the festivities, Emily went to basketball practice. A “family friend” dropped my father off at the gym for her practice; after Emily’s practice, my father rode with us as we trick-or-treated. My father had to work that night; therefore, my family had to end the fun early so he could get home and prepare for work. He lived in Rainsville at the time, so we stopped at McDonald’s to eat dinner with our father before dropping him off; however, when we arrived at his home, a woman and her two children walked outside to greet my father. The woman, Jennifer, knew that my father had not told us, his children, that he had been living with her for the past two months, but that did not stop her from walking outside. That night on the drive home, I was extremely mad at my father and ignored all his phone calls; in addition, I did not speak to him until I saw him at a basketball game for Emily. Even then, I spoke very little to him, and I did not go to his house to spend Thanksgiving break with my father like my siblings did or even stay the night until the summer of 2017, when I was asked to babysit the girls and get payed for doing so. That same summer my parents got…

My family has a tradition of getting together every year for Halloween, we hang out, trick-or-treat with the kids, and just have loads of fun. Since I am too old to go trick-or-treat, I enjoy handing out candy to the little kids, but when I hand out candy I have at least one person outside with me to take over when I see clowns or that person will warn me so I can go inside. That year, everything is going great, I am handing out candy while I have my aunt outside with me to warn me. They had at least one or two clowns show up that night so I had already run inside a couple times. Then from a distance, I saw a clown coming towards the house, it was not a little kid, the clown was about the size of a teenager. I started to panic so I told my aunt to take over the candy station while I ran inside. Before my foot even stepped into the base of the door, Mr. Sandy had yelled at the clown, “hey she is terrified of clowns, why don’t you mess with her” and locked the door so I could not get in the house. The clown started running towards me, so I started to run away but the clown chased me. I hid in the bushes so he couldn’t find me, so the clown got bored and finally…

I asked “what are ya’ll running and changing your t-shirts for” they said in a nervous manner “police and security guards are looking for your cousins that ordered food inside the restaurant ”. I started walking towards the parking lot, it was dark and had no street lights. My friends followed me as we tried to stay as far away as we could from my family and ease our way back to the car. I look down the street and seen bright red and blue lights flashing with all of my family standing there and lots of people standing around them.…

A near death experience, or NDE, can mean many different things not only mentally, but physically as well. An experience can occur when the heart stops and somehow comes back to life whether it be naturally or by doctors, or it can happen while a person is in a type of danger that is going to result in death no matter what. In addition, a person can also have a near death experience without the threat of impending physical death (Atman). Many factors come into having an experience as serious as this, so people who have had a NDE are greatly affected.…

It was mid year and I was in 4th grade. My siblings and I were on spring break and my mom thought it would be a fun idea to bring us to the roller rink. I remember being so excited because I loved roller skating. When we arrived there I sprinted out of the car and rushed to go get my skates. Once my mom had paid it was like a gunshot went off I raced to go get my skates on and next thing I know I am skating on the wooden floor. As I was skating I looked around and noticed something odd. I saw one of my friends in front of me. Then I saw another. I started looking around and realized all my friends were here. But why? I wondered. Being the naive kid I was thought maybe it was just a coincidence that we were all here at the same time. I was wrong. I wasn’t even close to the reason why. It ended up being who I thought were my “best friend’s” birthday party. I was devastated how could she not invite me? She ended up noticing I was there and came over saying how she forgot to invite me and that I could still have cake with them. It was obviously just a pity offer. I declined her offer and went back to my mom telling her I wanted to leave. I held in my tears all the way home and once I got to my room I exploded. The tears came like a waterfall streaming down my…
