Becoming a nurse in the next is a practical career choice. In the next 10 years, the nursing career will be expected to increase at least 26%. Nurses get paid pretty well too. The median salary nurses make is about $64,000. Nurses have the opportunity to advance in their career as well. If they continue their schooling, they would be able to become nurse anesthetists and many other career choices. Nursing will be a practical career in the next ten years because employment of nursing is expected to increase 26% from 2010 to 2020, the wage is fairly high, and there will be opportunities to advance in the field.
Nurses typically have to “provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.”# Nurses can work at hospitals or in private offices. Nurses typically have to record and organize patients’ medical history, give patients treatments and medications, help perform diagnostic tests and analyze, and many other things.# Nurses have a decent salary. On average, nurses make about $31.10 an hour and $64,690 annually.
Nurses will benefit greatly from technology. Nurses need to organize and record patients’ medical records. Rather than putting them all on paper, which would be a pretty tedious process, nurses could just put them into the computers. Putting their records in the computer will help keep them more organized and will grant easier access. The nurses don’t have to go running from one room to another. All they have to do is pull up their records on the computer.
There are perks to being a nurse however, like many other jobs, it also has many downsides. Being a nurse will be pays well. However, this all comes with a price. “Registered nurses may spend a lot of time walking, bending, stretching, and standing. They are vulnerable to back injuries because they must often lift and move patients. The work of registered nurses may put them in close contact with people who have infectious diseases, and they often come in contact with potentially harmful and hazardous drugs and other substances. Therefore, registered nurses must follow strict, standardized guidelines to guard against diseases and other dangers, such as radiation, accidental needle sticks, or the chemicals they use to sterilize instruments.”#
Nursing is not competitive when looking for a job. Nurses can find jobs easily as there are many openings available in multiple hospitals across the country as well as in many other parts of the world. Going to school to be a nurse is competitive however. This is because nursing has become increasingly popular and there are limited spaces available in the classroom. One of the toughest parts to becoming a nurse is the application process into the nursing program at a school.
