Recruitment & Selection Process of

People are one of the important elements of organizations. To remain in the competition or to expand businesses, companies need to hire efficient individuals who can lead the company to achieve its goals. Locating and attracting well–qualified individuals to fill job vacancies is really a challenging task for the organization. From skilled tool-makers to senior executives, the demand for qualified human power is increasing day by day. An organization cannot survive without the human resources to keep it alive, vigorous and growing. Recruitment is the process by which organizations locate and attract individuals who are capable of and interested in filling available job vacancies. And selection is the process of choosing the individual who can successfully perform the job from the pool of qualified candidates. Together, recruitment and selection play a fundamental and crucial role in the functioning and development of the organization.

1.1 Origin of the Study
This study is originated as a partial requirement of the Human Resources Management course of MBA program of Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka. The Study “An evaluation of recruitment and selection process of MGH Group” is submitted to Ms. Sutapa Bhattacharjee, Assistant Professor, Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka. 1.2 Objectives of the Study

The prime objective of the study is to evaluate the recruitment and selection process of MGH Group, one of the leading conglomerates in Bangladesh. To facilitate achieving the prime objective, this study aims at attaining the following specific operational objectives – ❖ To explore the recruitment goals and philosophy of the organization. ❖ To identify the sources of recruitment of the organization. ❖ To go through the employee selection process of the organization. ❖ To identify what attributes in the applicant are examined. ❖ To evaluate the reliability and validity of the recruitment and selection process. ❖ To try to suggest a better recruitment and selection process.

1.3 Scope of the Study
This study mainly covers the group’s Human Resources Department and its recruitment and selection functions.

1.4 Limitations

This study is weak in some points. The notable ones are as under:

❖ This study is confined to only MGH Group. It would be better if it would compare the recruitment and selection process of the group with those of some other companies in its industry. ❖ Another limitation of this study is the company’s policy of not disclosing some data and information for obvious reasons, which could be very much useful.

1.5 Methodology
Data Types
Both primary and secondary information were used to address the study objectives.

Data Sources
Primary data was obtained by interviewing the personnel in the Human Resources Department of the group. Secondary information was collected from reference materials, different publications of MGH Group, websites etc.

MGH Group started its operation in 1992. It is named after the renowned businessperson Mr. Mohammad Gaziul Haque. Human resource is the greatest resource of the group. Accordingly the group’s slogan is “People are our power– the power to be the best.” MGH operates in three main areas, such as aviation, transportation, and distribution of consumer products.

2.1 MGH Aviation
MGH Aviation represents South African Airways, Garuda Indonesia, Air Mauritius and Egypt Air as GSA in Bangladesh. The group also represents Galileo International– a computerized reservation system as a national distributor company in Bangladesh. Renaissance Aviation Services Ltd., One World Air Cargo Ltd., MGH Global Airlines Ltd. and Galileo Bangladesh Ltd. are the subsidiary companies of MGH Aviation.
