DEFINITION OF TERMS
To ensure clarity and understanding of the study, some of the terms are conceptually and operationally defined:
Assessment. This term is defined as a process of gathering and documenting information about the achievement, skills, abilities, and personality variables of an individual. To the organization it is the act of assessing; appraisal.
Behavior. It is defined as the manner of conducting oneself. To the department, it is the action, reaction, or functioning of a system, under normal or specified circumstances.
Department. This term refers to a separate part, division, or branch, as of a government, business, or school. To the HRM this would mean a division of a larger organization into parts with a specific responsibility.
General Measures. It is defined as determination and evaluation of the results of an activity, plan, process, or program and their comparison with the intended or projected results. An action taken as a means to an end as defined by the department.
Implement. This pertains to a tool or instrument used in doing work. To the organization this would mean to put into effect according to or by means of a definite plan or procedure.
Improvement. This word is defined as a person or thing that represents an advance on another in excellence or achievement. To the institution, it is the process of getting better results.
Laboratory. It is defined as a room or building equipped for scientific experimentation or research. To the HRM department it is a room equipped with laboratory facilities to conduct an activity related to their major subjects.
Plan. This term refers to an orderly or step-by-step conception or proposal for accomplishing an objective. To the organization this would mean to have a specific aim or purpose.
Policy. It is defined as a principle or protocol to guide decisions and achieve rational outcomes. To the institution it is the set of basic principles and associated guidelines, formulated and
