Yucca Mountain. Just a mountain you may think, but not just any mountain. A mountain that our Congressmen decided would be a great repository storage facility for spent nuclear reactor fuel and other radioactive waste. 196 billion dollars were spent towards this project. Back in 1987, this project was the ideal project to store radioactive waste. As the 1990’s and 2000’s crept in, Nevada’s residents were against this idea big time. Funding for the Yucca Mountain Repository was discontinued by Congress in February 2010. I disagree with this discontinuation.…
The Carrizo plain is a large enclosed grassland area that is approximately 50 miles long and 15 miles across. Its location is in California spread between the Kern and San Luis Obispo counties. The Carrizo plains national monument is the single largest native grasslands that remain in California. Its unique ecosystem is home to much wildlife and has the largest concentration of some of the most endangered species of animals in California. The San Andres fault line runs through the plains and is unique because of the ease on is able to view the fractures of the fault from the plains floor. The plains are home to many archeological sites as well that have been named national historic landmarks.…
Mesa Verde in Montezuma County, Colorado is one of the most fantastic and thought provoking sites the United States’ National Parks has to offer. First inhabited about 9500 years ago, it is most well known for the feats that the Pueblo created at the sites across the park. With about 5,000 archaeological sites and 600 dwellings, it is archaeological goldmine that gives us a glimpse into the culture and life of original inhabitants in the Americas. (nps.gov). Although we don’t know exactly why they chose to leave this area after sustaining for about 700 years, we have good ideas about how they continued to live year after year and what type of innovations they made with the supplies they had.…
One of the most heavily protected and environmentally significant areas of Australia is the Blue Mountains region. It consists of a range of unique geology and biodiversity, and as a result it was found to be a prominent region in which it would be internationally recognized and listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Estate because of the many natural facets (UNESCO, 2009 and Commonwealth Government, 2009a). There are numerous national parks that are now regarded as part of the Greater Blue Mountains area, since the founding of the Blue Mountains National park 50 years ago (SITE). Most of these areas are in great ecological condition and are naturally vegetated (SITE)(Commonwealth Government, 1998).…

"Beyond mountains, there are mountains." The Haitians use this term to express when an obstacle has been overcome, the next one follows almost immediately afterwards. In life, this usually seems to be the case. Many people’s solution to a complication is to surrender to it. Paul Farmer is an exception to this. He is a man that has persevered through life, battling his own problems, while drastically improving and saving the lives of thousands. Farmer’s eminent passion for treating unhealthy patients was never deterred by the obstacles he faced in the poverty stricken countries such as Haiti.…
The Old Spanish Trail was a series of trails from Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Los Angeles, California. The three routes were called the Main Route, the Armijo route, and the North Branch. The trails went through New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California. These trails were used for trade, including Native American goods of blankets and baskets for horses and mules from California. I choose this topic because it was a major trade route from 1829 to 1848. This is a huge part in our Western history because it helped start developing the south western part of the United States. Since this trail was fairly long I wanted to know what it was like to travel The Old Spanish Trail.…
The sierra Nevada is a mountain range that runs over 600 miles long on the East coast of California at around 38.2 N, 119.5 W. This mountain range is relatively young, still being changed. It is home to many different wildflowers and trees. Black bears, mule deer, and mountain lions are all animals that live in the mountains, and there are volcanoes due to it being over a fault. The Sierra Nevadas has many pine and oak woodlands and grassland. The weather in the summer is mild, and the rainy season runs from October to May. It comes with a wide variety of weather, with heavy rains and high winds to bright sunshine, temperature ranging form below zero in winter to mild summers. It is also home to Lake Tahoe, which takes a 21 by 12 mile area,…
The Sierra Nevada mountain range stretches across the eastern side of the state of California. The range begins in the south at the Tehachapi Pass near Bakersfield and stretches north to Lake Almanor. The Sierra Nevada range is 400 miles long, north-to-south and has an average width of 70 miles wide. It was formed through subduction when the Pacific plate slid under the North American plate. The range is made up of deeply imbedded rock otherwise known as batholiths. The eastern slope of the mountains rose steeply which cause those slopes to be steep while the western sides are only gradually steep but not like the east 1. Thus the range provided as an early barrier to entrance into California and travelers had to go through the various passes to proceed, such as the famous Donner Pass.…
From Georgia to Newfoundland, the Appalachian Mountains stretches out. This was formed over 300 million years ago and is the oldest highland region in North America. When North America collided with Europe and Northern Africa during the formation of Pangaea (the supercontinent), rocks were uplifted. Rocks from Wales and Scotland can be similar to those found in the Appalachians of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Coal deposit is rich in the layers of sedimentary rock. Iron and zinc can also be found in plateaus of this rock. The once jagged peaks have been reduced over the years to rolling mountains and hills. Glaciation affected these erosions greatly, separating the hills and mountains with wide glacial valleys. The weight of ice pressed the…

Like the location and information about tourism and attractions, that attract the most of tourist’s. I also want to find out, what type of tourist are going there. If they are families with children, young couples or people, who likes adventure.…

The Grand Canyon National Park, in it’s exceptional beauty, is special for many reasons. Located in Arizona, it is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The canyon itself descends a mile into the Colorado Plateu. This area was home to many Native American tribes including the the Anasazi, dating as far back as 500 B.C.. In 600-700 A.D. the Coconino people showed up. The climate and various other factors forced both tribes out of the area and the Cerbat people, which are actually the ancestors to the Havasupai Indians, and the Paiutes moved in.…
