* -------------------------------------------------
1. “The Americans have made a discovery, or think they have made a discovery, that we mean to oppress them; we have a made a discovery, or think we have made a discovery, that they intend to rise up in rebellion against us. We know not how to advance; they know not how to retreat.” Edmund Burke * -------------------------------------------------

a. What kind of “advance” or adjustment might the British have made to halt the escalation of the colonial rebellion? * -------------------------------------------------
The type of advance that the British might be referring to is a military action in which the redcoats are sent into the colonies to establish order and control. b. What kind of retreat would the colonists have had to make to be acceptable to Britain? * -------------------------------------------------
The “retreat” that the colonists would need to make would be for the colonists to stop protesting and halt all actions that were taking place in the patriot movement. A “retreat” by the colonists would lessen the fears of the British and show no threat of rebellion from the colonists. * -------------------------------------------------

2. Was the dominant concern of the colonists economic or political? Explain your answer. * -------------------------------------------------
The main concern of the colonists was economic. The colonists were concerned with the economic situation more so than the political situation after the Parliament stopped the practice of salutary neglect. Once Parliament saw that the colonies could be used as a useful source of raw materials and exports, they began to enforce strict policies and guidelines on the industries of the colonies. After Parliament had been enforcing policies for a period of time the colonists began to realize that their was no room for them to make profit and they saw that Parliament was practically taking away all of their work and products. This realization angered the colonists and sparked a series of uprisings and protests toward Parliament. The colonists main concern was making money. * -------------------------------------------------
