American Revolution (1775-1783)
Causes
High and unfair taxes contributed to frustrations of the American people. The stamp act(1765) and taxing on tea caused uproar
The middle class was upset with unfair political practices The Boston Massacre on March 5, 1770 (5 dead civilians)

Results
The American people have established their independence from the British George Washington was named first American President

Events
“The shot heard around the world”(April 19, 1775)
British military met the patriot’s minutemen in Lexington when a shot from an undetermined musket fired and launched a American revolution. The Boston Tea Party (December 16, 1773)
Patriots dressed up like British soldiers and dumped 342 chests of British tea into the water. The Boston Massacre on (March 5, 1770)
A crowd had formed and was taunting a British scout. This lead to a battalion of soldiers coming over and eventually a volley of shots rang out and 5 were killed on scene or died later. Battle of Saratoga (1777)

This battle was said to be the turning point of the revolution in Americas favor.

French Revolution (1789-1790’s)

Causes
oHigh taxes on bread were a cause for the revolution.
oFrivolous spending of King Louis the 16th
oDroughts and disease lead to poor harvest and poor living conditions. oNo rights for every man only privileged men.

Unfair Treatment
oThe French were divided into different class and these classes had certain political rights which were unfair. oNo rights for every man only privileged men.

Results
oThe French Third Estate made a “Bill of Rights”
This gave a sense of free will for all French men
oNovember 9, 1799 Napoleon abolishes the directory and names himself first consul

oThe third estate convened on June 20, 1789 and then made the “Tennis Court Oath” This oath stated that they will not disband until a new constitution was made. oRevolutionaries...
