Obesity has become an ongoing problem in this country for quite some time, but it has gotten so bad that now we must label it as an extremely dangerous disease. With millions of American children and adults becoming heavier and heavier day-by-day, it has to raise questions about how we act as a nation. Many say that it’s up to us as individuals to stop obesity from occurring because at the end of the day, it is our body that is being affected and we have the most power over what goes in it. This response makes sense for certain arguments, but is not an effective one for the question that has been posed, that if it is solely our responsibility to manage our obesity. How is it only our responsibility to regulate whether we become obese or not? It doesn’t make sense to me how nobody can take responsibility for this. For someone such as myself I would agree that it’s up to me to decide what I eat and when I eat it but for America’s youth that’s in school from 7am- 2pm, there’s not a whole lot they can do. The parents can be blamed for it of course, as it is their children and as parents it is their job to do the best they can for their child. However, it is also the states job to see that schools provide healthy choices and options for their students which they have failed to do. What we need to do is spend money on our school systems and make sure that we are providing students the right things rather than watching them grow up obese and unhealthy. Page 2
The government is politically in charge of us and they are elected to do what the people want them to do. I’m almost 100% positive that I can say both parties whether democrat or republican believe that obesity is an issue and would like nothing more than to treat it as best as they can. But now around election time republicans refuse to raise taxes on the rich while democrats push for it. People need to understand that the tax money that will be received will go towards many of the government funded programs, but...
