America had a strong influence in handing International affairs in the 1990s. At that time, along with the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, the United States became the only super power in the world. (1) Military Attacks on Iraq and Yugoslavia
In the 1990s, the United States gave the world an impression of world policeman, usually in alliances. In 1990, the Iraq army invaded Kuwait, overthrew the government of Kuwait and tried to master it. The U.S.-led alliance launched a military attack coded Desert Storm on Iraq by claiming Iraq invasion and annexation of Kuwait on January 17th, 1991. The war cost billions of dollars. Finally, Iraq was forced to leave Kuwait. The war was called Gulf War. The Gulf War was the worst regional war after World War II. Many high technology weapons were put into use in the Gulf War. The War not only made a great influence on the political situation in the world, but also had great influences in the military sector. It also caused some pollution. However, for human beings, a war means death and sorrow. Billions of people lost their families and homes forever. The U.S.-led NATO mounted an air strike on Yugoslavia on March 24th, 1999. The reason that the American launched this military action was to keep peace in Kosovo and to help solve its political crisis. The America tried to make NATO as its global expansion tool after the “Cold War”. There is no doubt that the war itself is aggressive and unjust. It is a violence trample in sovereignty of an independent country. It caused thousands of deaths and thousands of wounded.
