There is a lot of discussion in the U.S. today about whether gay and lesbians should or not be allowed to adopt. Different groups and professionals will see the issue very differently. Some will argue for the rights of the gay couple, and others will argue for the rights of the children. There are pros and cons to consider when discussing the rights of gay couples to adopt. Should gays and lesbians couple be allowed to adopt children? The answer to this big argument is “NO!.” Gay couples adopting creates confusion about the child’s gender connection. For example, raising a heterosexual child in a same sex household will most likely question his or her sexuality. Same sex parents abuse more of drugs and alcohol than a heterosexual couple. According to the Medical Institute of Sexual health: “Significantly higher percentages of homosexual men and women abuse drugs, alcohol and tobacco than do heterosexuals.”(Glenn Gary, np). In certain cases it is a chance of having an adult that was raised by a same sex couple to become a child molester, and also is a big confusion of a gender connection with the parents.
First of all, what can a gay couple offer a child? Society does not realize that raising. The National Gay and Lesbian Domestic Violence Network States: “The probability of violence occurring in a gay couple is mathematically double the probability of that in a heterosexual couple.” A child in a same sex marriage is confusing, dangerous, and immoral for the health a child. Allowing the gay couple to adopt is putting on jeopardy the tranquility and safety of a child. Children from gay families are discriminated in the society exposing them to be at risk of bullying. These acts can bring large consequences in their psychological development; they will feel inferior, frustrated, depressed. All this can lead to death, just because they cannot face the reality of their world.
