All Changes Are For The Better
Thomas Edison once said, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” It is a valuable saying and imparts great wisdom. People do not see a chance to succeed because it looks like tiresome work. In other words, a person prefers bright and shiny conditions for achieving a goal, and in most cases overlooks a really good opportunity. When I think about it, it reminds me of a time in my life when I was witness to the powerful meaning of this quote.
During life people are looking for the best conditions for themselves. People solve their problems and try to find the most advantageous decisions. People like to make excuses, thinking that they are not able to do something. They think that it is going to take too much time, but time goes constantly. If they started a task now, in one year they will be closer to their goal. My mother told me a story of losing opportunity to make a career ladder. By the time she got a social degree in college she was pregnant with me, and my mother decided to stop her education and stay at home like a housewife. Later she bewailed the lost chance to see herself in a work environment. It happened because it looked hard and boring. In this case she found easiest decision by closing a door to an opportunity. Edison wanted to say in this quote that only with time and work these overalls may be a beautiful dress.
With this quote the author may have wanted to encourage people to be more brave, strong, and be ready for changes for better life. Edison sent the message do not be afraid of doing something new, even if it seems extremely hard. Everybody likes to stay in front of their TV and feel comfortable, but it isn’t everything that we need. Let’s take an example how people suddenly change their destiny to come to another country. For the first time this opportunity looks like an impossible task and heavy toil. It was so

Every obstacle can be turned into an opportunity through perseverance and dedication. Human nature is associated with the stubbornness to succeed. For example, Harriet Tubman did not let any racial barriers overthrow her. Also, during the colonial period the colonists did not allow themselves to be dominated by the British. Another example is of Andrew Carnegie who headed the Carnegie Steel Industry in the nineteenth century.…

The quote I have chosen is, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm”. This is one of Winston Churchill's most well known quotes. This quote was said during his reign as the Prime Minister of Great Britain. It is unknown as to where this quote came from but I found it to be very captivating. I feel like Churchill is trying to get the point across that in life it is normal to not be perfect. Everyone makes mistakes and each failure shapes you as a person. Churchill is saying that if you put your mistakes in the past without changing who you are, it makes you stronger and more successful than someone who fails to do so. Being afraid of failure gets you nowhere in life so Churchill is stating that everyone should strive with great enthusiasm in order to be their best self.…

Therefore, this hackneyed statement devalues beneficial statements like the motto used by the Traveling Symphony, “Survival is Insufficient.” The versatility of this quote is abounding. In all facets of life, this quote can be applied. According to this statement, the stagnancy of life should not be endured, it should be used as motivation to project the best possible versions of ourselves. Whatever we may find ourselves partaking in, this quote reminds us to find the courage within ourselves to contribute to something in the best conceivable way. This quote also stresses the importance of finding your personal calling. Whether it be a ditch digger or leading a Fortune 500 company, this quote empowers everyone to make the most of themselves. In the age of tolerance, we find ourselves suppressing our true feelings and desires. The insufficiency of this existence is not what we were made to do. We are supposed to trail blaze new paths and constantly reinvigorate ourselves to make our university, our town, our state, our nation, our world the best it can possibly…

Potential. It is something we all have. Some people realize they have it and some don’t. Many individuals overlook the potential in others, seeing only annoying quirks and peculiar idiosyncrasies. Others have a gift for seeing potential and being able to help someone flourish. Opportunity on the other hand is something that only comes around occasionally and sometimes it never comes. There can be all the potential in the world in someone or something but if opportunity does not come the potential is never revealed. It can be observed in Annie Dillards’ An American Childhood, in events in history, and even in today’s society that there is extensive underlying potential in people and places that we simply overlook because there is no opportunity for it to be demonstrated in its fullest capacity.…

The American Dream embodies this quote, and I agree with it. Who does not? As my former principal at the Florence Freshman Center used to say, “Hard work pays off!” Because of my own past experiences, I can attest to his saying. Since its founding, America has been the land of opportunity, and thousands of people have stormed to the country to better their lives. Even if the majority of them did not become wealthy, the country still held onto the sentiment, and it exists today. Nowadays though, many other countries around the world offer better opportunities for people, but foreigners still want to come to America. I believe that this ideal has helped the people everywhere to work harder and push for a better tomorrow. This ideal takes the determination in all of us and pushes it to the forefront. Once we embrace the idea that hard work eventually pays off, I believe that this is the catalyst for…

People born with natural talent hardly ever face challenges regarding the category they are proficient in. Imagine an academically gifted child, who decides to learn how to play the cello. This child quickly becomes frustrated with the advanced techniques and skills they are required to learn but cannot grasp, and quits altogether. Nothing was learned from this failure, the child did not retain any information they were taught regarding the cello. In the first paragraph of “Adversity: An Opportunity to Choose Growth” a nonfiction article by Camille Preston, Ph.D, PCC, it asks the rhetorical question:”What will [someone] do to turn adversity into a learning opportunity?” Few people turn mistakes into opportunities to grow as a person. Instead, they turn from one thing to the next, giving up every time they fail. Isn’t it best for people to stick to what they’re good at, in order to avoid getting hurt? Of course, some people claim to be “untalented”, but everyone enjoys doing something important to them - perfect at it or not. Being content with life is the end goal, and if someone has failed often enough to be dissatisfied with their life, it was not a happy life they lived. To quote Thomas Edison: “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” Obviously, if someone does not succeed, they…

Life itself is growth, and the minute we allow ourselves to stop growing we really stop being vitally alive. And it is so fatally easy for people to get into a rut, to bask in the noonday sun of self-satisfaction[,] to cease to grow. Take my own profession, for instance. In the realm of grand opera, ignoring precedent and striking out into new paths is one of the hardest things to achieve. How easy it is for the producers of opera to be content with age old traditions, to go on going the easy thing. The antiquated thing that has become so much a matter of habit that thinking about it becomes…

Only a scare amount of people are destined to be the President of the United States, to be astronauts, to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, or to find a cure for a terminal disease. All of us are capable of significant accomplishments and achievements throughout each of our lives. As Mother Teresa or St. Teresa of Calcutta states this quote, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love,” it signifies extreme importance through society in which people accomplish things rather large or small; love is always present during the accomplishments not matter the size of the achievement. Not everyone is exposed, or afforded, the opportunity to do great things; whether fame, money, or motivation tend to get in the…

So many people have ideas of things they want to do, whether they be business-related, something that scares them or even just asking someone else out on a date. Everyone has ideas about how they want to live their lives, but most people never wind up following through. They are so afraid of failure or of looking bad that they run from any kind of challenge. Then later in life, when they realize that they had all these opportunities and never took advantage of them, they regret it so much. A lot of people choose the easy way out in order to avoid challenges and barely ever choose to take the road less traveled just to see where it could take them. That is a risk that few people take because they never want the responsibility of having to work for something. Life can only be lived by those who work hard for their achievements and follow through on their ideas and goals. It is the people who never work for anything that are unhappy…

The magic of hard work and perseverance cannot be underestimated. We see in general that people who have succeeded in life have done an immense amount of hard work and their success is we all see, but the effort put in, we fail to measure. We do wonder how he could achieve so much, but it is absolutely certain that achievement has come his way after much of continued effort. Most of us do make efforts but, soon lose heart and leave our projects and this is why we fail to reach the pinnacle of success. It must be clear in our minds that, we never can achieve with just a simple raising of a finger, we have got to put our heart and soul in a particular job and that also with continued vigour in every attempt then only we can hope for any success. Those of us who leave effort midway are obviously left midway by success also, and then we are disheartened and broke, just to ogle jealously at those who have succeeded. If we have the confidence in our effort, there is nothing that can deter us from…
