Air Pollution Paper 2

In the following paper I will discuss the different types of air pollutions the world faces. As well as explain how each of these types of air pollutions affect human health and the environment and I will also discuss some ways to control air pollution.
There are 7 primary pollutants and 2 secondary pollutants. In the primary pollutants there is Suspended Particulate matter (PM). Its sources are soot, smoke, metals and carbon from combustion, dust, salts, metal and dirt from erosion, as well as atmospheric reactions of gases. When fuels and waste are being burned it emits particles with mostly carbon as we see as soot and smoke. PM is a complex mixture of solid particles and aerosols.
There is Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) which is mixtures of compounds. There sources are from incomplete combustion of fossils fuels, evaporation of solvents and gasoline, as well as from emissions of plants. They are burned fragments of fuel molecule.
There is Carbon Monoxide (CO) which is invisible odorless, tasteless gas. Its source is from incomplete combustions of fuels.
There is Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) which is a reddish brown gas. Its source is from nitrogen gas due to high combustion temperatures when burning fuels also from wood burning. This air pollution aggravates respiratory disease.
There is Sulfur Dioxide (SO₂) which is a poisonous gas that comes from combustion of sulfur containing fuel especially coal.
There is Lead (Pb) which is toxic. Its source is battery manufacture, lead smelters, combustion of leaded fuels and solid waste.
They are called Primary Pollutants because they are direct products of evaporation and combustion. When the primary pollutants undergo further reactions they produce secondary pollutants. These pollutants are Ozone (Oȝ) and Peroxyacetyl nitrates (PAN). Ozone (Oȝ) source is a photochemical reaction between VOCs and NOx. Peroxyacetyl nitrates (PAN) source is the same as Ozone.
